JBL Now Accepting Pre-Orders For The Link View Smart Display

The JBL Link View is now available to pre-order directly from the JBL website. This is one of the first of the new ‘smart display’ product line (announced at CES) which looks to combine the Google Assistant voice assistant technology found in a number of devices with a display-focused product. JBL’s version is currently priced at $249.95 and is expected to start shipping out to those who pre-order starting from September 3, 2018, according to the JBL Link View product page.

In many ways, smart displays are simply a smart speaker, albeit one which does come with a display attached to provide visual reference points on feedback given from Google Assistant. This is in addition to acting as a cast-enabled screen for the times when you want to watch a video on a slightly larger screen than what is typically on offer with a smartphone. In the case of JBL this equates to an 8-inch display that is accompanied by two 10-watt (RMS) speakers. Some of the other additional benefits of a smart display include compatibility with other smart home-enabled products, and the ability to make video calls through Google Duo.

Of course, those less interested in waiting until JBL Link View orders are fulfilled, can instead opt for the Lenovo Smart Display. This is Lenovo’s version of the same product and does come with a number of benefits over JBL’s option, including a slightly more varied size selection with the Lenovo Smart Display now available to buy in either an 8 or 10-inch model. Likewise, depending on an individual’s taste, the Lenovo version might be a little more fitting in the home due to its modern and stylish look. Although, those who prefer the JBL way of doing things and the sound quality typically associated with JBL products will likely be better off pre-ordering the Link View and waiting for it to ship out. At present, LG is the only other confirmed manufacturer of a smart display with its ThinQ View also expected to arrive to market soon. Brand aside, the experience is expected to be pretty much the same regardless of which name you opt for.
