The LG V40 may retain the physical Google Assistant button found on the G7 ThinQ, with the handset also being likely to feature a POLED panel with a QHD+ resolution of 3,120 by 1,440 pixels which implies the existence of a display notch. The new information comes from Android firmware files obtained by XDA Developers that relate a device code-named “judypn” to three model numbers – LM-V400N, LM-V405N, and LM-V409N. While the identifiers in question and the very existence of a POLED screen imply this is the next addition to the LG V series of Android flagships, the fact that the firmware in question suggests the device features a dual-camera setup on the back does not.
According to one report from earlier this summer, the LG V40 will feature five cameras in total, including a three-lens rear-facing system. The same source claimed the device will sport a dual-camera setup on the front, whereas the newly sighted firmware files point to a single front-facing sensor. The discrepancies between the two might be attributable to the code in question being incomplete as the aforementioned model numbers aren’t believed to have been spoofed and are a clear indication of the “judypn” lineup being the LG V40. The handset in question will also feature Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 845 chip, a quad-DAC, and a 3,300mAh battery identical to the one found inside the G7 ThinQ, as per the same source.
The South Korean tech giant is expected to officially announce the next addition to its high-end smartphone series at this year’s IFA which is running from August 31 through September 5. The device is likely to be part of the company’s recently revived ThinQ brand and continue its focus on artificial intelligence and mobile photography. The newly reported codename is in line with the provisional monikers of the firm’s contemporary Android flagships, with the V35 ThinQ being internally referred to as “judyp” and the “p” part of that identifier possibly being a reference to its POLED panel. Likewise, the G7 ThinQ’s codename has been confirmed as “judyln” and the final two letters of that moniker could refer to its notch-equipped LCD panel. Following that train of thought, “judypn” will possibly be a POLED-equipped handset with a screen cutout.
