The Razer Phone was announced back in November last year, and it seems like its successor may land by the end of this year in China, according to the company’s Vice President, Chen Xiaoping. Mr. Xiaoping revealed such news during an annual gaming trade show in China, called ChinaJoy, though it seems like he did not confirm anything just far, as he said ‘may launch’, not ‘will launch’ or anything of the sort, but it seems like the company is definitely working on it. If not by the end of this year, we’ll see it in early 2019, but chances are that Razer is aiming to release it in November, exactly one year after the first-gen model arrived.
The Razer Phone more or less started the trend of gaming smartphones, after which a number of other manufacturers decided to join in, including Xiaomi, Nubia, and so on. The Razer Phone introduced the very first display with a refresh rate of 120Hz, which was great to see, especially considering that we’re talking about gaming here, while the device also included a pair of front-facing stereo speakers. All that resulted in a rather thick set of bezels above and below the phone’s display, but not many people complained, as this is a gaming smartphone, and you need a way to grip it anyway. The device was made out of aluminum, while it was fueled by the most powerful mobile SoC at the time, the Snapdragon 835. A 4,000mAh battery was also included in the package, while the phone did not sport a 3.5mm headphone jack. On top of everything the Razer phone also included 8GB of RAM.
We still do not have any info when it comes to the Razer Phone’s successor, aka the Razer Phone 2, but Razer will probably utilize the Snapdragon 845, and at least 8GB of RAM, while the phone’s bezels will almost certainly be at least a little bit thinner. Stereo speakers will almost certainly be a part of the package, and the same goes for a display with a 120Hz refresh rate. The company will include a larger battery on the inside as well, and it remains to be seen what else is Razer planning.
