Rumor: HMD Global's August 21 Event Focus On Nokia 6.1 Plus

A new report claims that HMD Global will likely announce the much wider release of the Nokia 6.1 Plus at the event scheduled by the device maker on August 21. The handset was first released as the Nokia X6 in China earlier this year, and the tech firm later confirmed that the global variant of the smartphone would be called as the Nokia 6.1 Plus. Earlier reports state that HMD Global will launch its latest flagship device, which is rumored to be called the Nokia 9, on the said event. Furthermore, the same report highlighted the possibility that Flipkart will offer the Nokia 6.1 Plus exclusively on its website. The Indian online retailer already posted a teaser of the device on its website, and it also released another video that not only talks about the partnership between Flipkart and HMD Global but also reiterates the fact that an event will take place on August 21

The Nokia 6.1 Plus ships with a stock build of Android 8.1 Oreo. Furthermore, since the device is part of Google’s Android One initiative, users of the handset should expect timely updates from HMD Global. The Snapdragon 636 powers the Nokia 6.1 Plus, and this SoC is comprised of an octa-core Kryo 260 CPU and the Adreno 509 GPU. The device contains 4GB of RAM and 64GB of expandable internal flash storage. The smartphone sports a 5.8-inch display with a resolution of 2,280 by 1,080 pixels and an aspect ratio of 19:9, and the display is protected from scratches by a sheet of Corning Gorilla Glass 3.

The Nokia 6.1 Plus includes a 3,060mAh battery, and it supports Qualcomm’s Quick Charge 3.0. The handset sports a dual rear camera setup that is equipped with one 16-megapixel sensor and one 5-megapixel module, while the front-facing selfie shooter comes with a 16-megapixel sensor with an aperture size of f/2.0. The smartphone supports connectivity features like 802.11ac Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 5.0, and it also includes a fingerprint scanner at the back. When the device launched in Hong Kong last month, HMD Global priced the device at HKD 2,288, which translates to $292 at the current exchange rate. Given that other regional social media accounts of HMD Global have released teasers for the Nokia 6.1 Plus, it is likely that the smartphone will also be available in other markets soon.
