Samsung’s first smartphone expected to be based on Android Go has leaked once again, this time in the form of a Russian user manual which has been prematurely published by the OEM ahead of the handset’s debut. The document refer to the device by the model number SM-J260F/DS, though the handset is expected to be advertised as the Galaxy J2 Core. The manual also contains a fair number of sketches depicting the device and confirming some of its characteristics leaked over the past few months, as can be seen in the gallery below.
The Samsung Galaxy J2 Core showcased in the user manual looks very similar to the device seen in a series of live hands-on photos last month as it features on-screen navigation buttons, no physical keys on the front panel, fairly thick bezels which are still appropriate for the budget market segment, and a single main camera on the back panel, coupled with an LED flash. In addition, the user manual confirms that the device won’t follow in the footsteps of Samsung’s newer flagships boasting a glass sandwich design, and instead, it will have a removable back cover and a user-replaceable battery akin to the OEM’s older Android smartphones. Likewise, the sketches further confirm the inclusion of a microSD card slot which seems to be doubling as a SIM card tray. As for the software, the Samsung Galaxy J2 Core is understood to be running a custom implementation of Android Go, as well as a number of Samsung applications revised with the goal of prioritizing performance. Some features are expected to be missing from these Go-branded apps like Internet Go, but in return, they should be thoroughly optimized for the low-end hardware of the Galaxy J2 Core.
Previous unofficial encounters with the Galaxy J2 Core have already indicated the device has been certified by various regulatory agencies including the Wi-Fi Alliance, Bluetooth SIG, as well as the FCC, so it’s only natural to assume that the smartphone is nearing its market launch. And according to another leak from June, the device should sport a 5-inch Super AMOLED display, an Exynos 7570 chipset with four CPU cores clocked at up to 1.4Ghz, 1GB of RAM, and 16GB of flash memory.
