College year is about to start, and many of you are probably getting ready to go back to college, or start the experience altogether. Well, having the right set of apps on your phone may prove to be useful, as there are apps out there which can help you make that college year less painful, and they’re not exactly all study-related, quite the contrary. We’ve assembled a list of 10 applications that we feel will prove to be useful to college students, well, at least some of you, and we did our best to mix in a wide variety of applications here, do keep in mind that these apps are not listed in any specific order.
Netflix
Netflix may be an odd first choice for such a list, but apps are not listed in a specific order here, and college students need to relax after long hours of studying, in comes Netflix. This app is quite probably familiar to many of you, as it allows you to watch a ton of movies and TV series that are available on the platform. Netflix is not free, but it’s not all that expensive either, and you do have several subscription models to choose from. This app even allows you to download movies and TV shows (within the app), so that you can watch them without an Internet connection.
Uber
Uber is quite probably the most popular peer-to-peer ridesharing / taxi cab service in the world, and having Uber’s app installed on your phone may prove to be quite useful, especially if you don’t own a personal car to drive around everywhere. Most of you are probably going to college outside of your hometown, which means you have to think about transportation, you can either use public transportation, a personal car, or rely on taxis / services like Uber. This app is free and easy to use.
Google Drive
Google Drive is Google’s very own cloud storage service, and it allows you to store various files, ranging from images and videos to doc and PDF files. You get access to Google Drive as soon as you create a Google account, and as part of it 15GB of free storage. That storage will probably prove to be useful to quite a few of you, as it will give you a rather simple way to access your college presentations, papers, and everything else, no matter where you are, all you have to do is install the app on your smartphone, and you’re good to go.
Evernote
Evernote started off as a simple note-taking service, and today, it’s so much more than that. Evernote lets you keep your notes, memos, and everything of the sort in the same place, and easy to access. You can grab voice memos, make plans within this application, write journals, keep your to-do lists in order, scan for documents, and so much more. Evernote even lets you take hand-written notes, if that’s your thing, and the service is free to use, same can be said for the company’s app which is available via the Play Store.
My Study Life
If you’re in need of a school planner, well, the My Study Life app may prove to be useful. This app focuses specifically on planning your school / college activities, and considering how much stuff you need to get done, having such an app on your phone may be a good idea. This app allows you to store your classes, homework, and exams in the cloud, and easy to access by doing so. Reminders for unfinished tasks are a part of the offering, while the app will also notify you of upcoming exams. There are quite a few features built into this application.
MyScript Calculator
In case you’re studying math, or something math-related, having a calculator is a necessity, and the MyScript Calculator app is quite interesting. This application, unlike many others out there, allows you to use your hand to write out math equations and what not, and it will help you get to the answer you need. This app also comes with gesture support, which will basically allow you to delete what you wrote quicker, and generally operate this app faster than usual. This application is free to download, though it does come with ads.
Adobe Scan
Adobe Scan is a really useful app by Adobe, as it lets you take a picture of a document, after which the app can convert the content of your image into a PDF file. This can be immensely useful if you need to quickly capture a few chapters from a book, or perhaps you need a picture of the upcoming exam. These are just some examples, usage scenarios are endless when it comes to school, as it can turn your business cards, whiteboards, and so much more into PDF files, this app is not limited only to regular documents.
Google Play Music
More or less everyone likes to listen to music from time to time, and having the right app during your college year(s) is important, of course. Now, your app choice will probably depend on what service you’re subscribed to, as there are quite a few options out there, but Google Play Music is one of the best, next to Spotify, of course. Google Play Music is home to a ton of tracks, chances are you’ll find almost everything you’re looking for on Google Play Music, and the library is constantly growing, not to mention that the app itself works really well, and offers a nice-looking UI, while it also allows you to save music offline.
Duolingo
Knowing how to speak in multiple languages can be quite useful, and that’s where Duolingo comes in, as this app is really powerful when it comes to learning new languages. Duolingo allows you to learn a ton of new languages, and it will take its time to do so, as it will start slow, so that you can keep up, and will gradually increase the pace. Duolingo has been around for quite some time now, and the company has been constantly improving the app and it’s design, and the best of all, it’s free.
Google Maps
If your college is not in your hometown, chances are you’ll have a hard time navigating a new city without some help from an app like Google Maps. Google Maps is the most popular navigation application on mobile phones, and for a good reason, as it’s quite detailed and it works great. Now, if you’re not on your first year of college, and have managed to get a good grasp of the city, you’ll probably use this app less and less, but it’s always good to have, as it’s easy to get lost in a big city.
