Waterproof Garmin Vivosmart 4 With Energy Monitor Unveiled – IFA 2018

Garmin today officially introduced the new Vivosmart 4 activity tracker, a smart wearable device for the wrist, boasting waterproof capabilities and tracking for physical activities like swimming. The wearable features a wide range of sensors, including a pulse oximetry sensor for monitoring blood oxygen saturation levels during night time, as well as advanced sleep monitoring capabilities for light, deep, and REM sleep. The unit relies on a battery said to provide up to seven days of usage on a single charge and syncs with the Garmin Connect smartphone application which gives users detailed information regarding sleep patterns and more.

Additionally, the latest Vivosmart 4 activity tracker features an energy monitoring service called Body Battery, which estimates a wearer’s energy levels from a variety of data including stress, sleep patterns, and heart rate variability, and provides more detailed feedback on how activities performed in previous days might have an effect on the user’s current state. A higher Body Battery figure will let users know that they might be ready for a new workout, while a lower value will suggest that it might be time for the wearer to take a break from demanding activities. The tracker gathers and provides data for activities including walks and runs, pool swims, strength training, and yoga to name a few, while a redesigned Elevate wrist-based heart rate sensor can also provide VO2 max and abnormal heart rate alerts. Aside from these fitness-related features, the wristband can also provide music controls, information regarding weather, deliver smart notifications with vibration alerts, and offer notifications for social media. In addition, it offers a “find your phone” function and the ability to reply to SMS using preset messages, although this functionality is reserved exclusively for Android smartphone users. Furthermore, the Garmin Connect smartphone app allows users to connect with other people like friends and family, and engage in challenges and competitions to earn badges.

Much like the Vivosmart 3 introduced last year, the upcoming Garmin Vivosmart 4 will launch in two different sizes, i.e., small/medium and large. The former will be available in four color choices including black, Azure Blue with Silver accents, as well as Berry and Gray with Gold accents, while the large model seems to be planned to go on sale only in black. Regardless of size and flavor, the Garmin Vivosmart 4 carries a price of $129.99 and according to the official product page, the wearable should become available within the next five weeks.
