There’s been a lot of discussion regarding the transparent backplate on the Xiaomi Mi 8 Explorer Edition, and a teardown finally surfaced to reveal the truth. Before we get started, however, it’s worth noting that several reports claimed that it does not show real components on the inside of the phone, while Xiaomi said that “it’s not a sticker”, while the company did not explain things any further. Well, this video teardown reveals the truth.
It seems like recent reports were quite accurate, while Xiaomi did not lie either. The company did not include a sticker underneath that see-through glass panel, but those are not real components either, it’s more of a 3D cosmetic plate (though it’s made out of actual resistors and capacitors), as a recent report claimed. Xiaomi basically included this 3D cosmetic plate on top of the phone’s internals so that it looks more appealing when you look at it, and even though it’s a bit deceiving, it may not be such a bad thing, as it looks much better this way. The provided teardown video has a duration of approximately 16 minutes, and it will show you the whole procedure of disassembling the Xiaomi Mi 8 Explorer Edition, just in case you’re interested, while you’ll also get a chance to see this cosmetic plate by yourself, and all the components that are included underneath it.
The Xiaomi Mi 8 Explorer Edition is the most powerful smartphone Xiaomi introduced thus far, even though it’s quite similar to the Mi 8. The Xiaomi Mi 8 Explorer Edition is fueled by the Snapdragon 845 64-bit octa-core processor, while it includes 8GB of RAM and 128GB of native storage. The phone comes with a 6.21-inch fullHD+ Super AMOLED display, and a 3,000mAh non-removable battery. Android 8.1 Oreo comes pre-installed on the device, along with Xiaomi’s MIUI skin.
