Chances are that you’ve never heard of ‘Art Selfie’, but that feature is now rolling out to Google Lens. Art Selfie has been available in Google’s Arts & Culture app from January this year, and it basically allows you to match your selfie to a famous painting. Thanks to this feature, you can basically take a selfie, and the app will find a famous painting of a person which resembles you the most. That app got its five minutes of fame because of that feature earlier this year, even though it’s basically a portable museum which you can check out from your smartphone.
Having said that, this rather interesting and fun feature is now rolling out to Google Lens, which essentially means that a ton of people will have direct access to it, as not many people have Google’s Arts & Culture app installed. Art Selfie is powered by Google’s computer vision technology, which is based on Machine Learning, of course. After your face gets compared to a famous painting / paintings, you can learn more about said painting, of course, that’s probably the whole purpose of this feature, to get you to learn something along the way. It’s also worth noting that this feature was exclusive to the US, until now, but considering it’s hitting Google Lens, it should become available on a global basis.
This feature should become available in Google Lens both through Google Assistant and Google Photos, though it may not be available just yet. This rollout will be gradual, as expected, so it may take a bit of time until you actually see Art Selfie as an option in Google Lens. The feature is live in the UK as we speak, though, so those of you who live in the UK probably have access to it already. It’s also worth noting that the feature is not exclusive to Android, iOS users will also be able to use it.
