In Short: It seems like Google has started rolling out its customizable Google Search widget to more users, reports are saying so, and we’ve also received this option on one of our devices. You can check if this search widget is available on your device by heading to the ‘More’ tab in the Google app. In there, you should be able to see the ‘Customize Widget’ option, which will let you adjust the appearance of the Google Search widget. That widget is rectangular by default, well, almost, its corners are slightly rounded. On top of that, it sports a multi-colored Google logo on the left, and a voice search icon on the right… well, you can change that now, presuming this option is available on your device. If you take a look at the gallery down below, you will be able to see all the option that are available to you.
Background: Reports regarding Google app’s customizable widget started popping up last month, at the end of last month, to be accurate, when some users received this functionality. It was just a matter of time before it becomes available for everyone, and it seems like that is happening now, as it seems like Google is rolling out this feature globally. As you can see in the gallery down below, there are plenty of options to choose from, ranging from the shape of the search bar itself, to changing icons that are included in it. You can even play with opacity if you want, and turn that bar all-black, or any other color you want, there are plenty of options that Google included here.
Impact: It is worth noting that this option is available for us on Google app version 8.20.13.21, and this is a stable version of the app, in case you were wondering. It may not be available to some of you who are running this version, though, as it is possible this is a server-side change, but we’re not sure at this point. In any case, this is a nice addition by Google that some of you will certainly appreciate, as not everyone likes white-colored object on the display, and would like to spice things up a bit.
