In short: Google has a couple more announcements in regards to search today as well. It is bringing Google Lens over to its Image Search product. This is going to allow you to do even more with the images that you find when searching. There will also be featured videos added to search results and Google will increase its dependence on AMP pages. On images found in Google Image Search, there will be a Lens icon in the bottom right corner, and clicking on that will allow Google to show you what it believes are the most important aspects of that photo.
The other big update here is Activity Cards. These cards are going to save your previous searches for you, so if you are researching a topic, you can quickly jump back into that search and continue with your research. These cards will only be visible to you, so these searches are not being broadcast to everyone on the web.
Background: Google is always making changes to Search, both in how search results are displayed to the user, and how it ranks websites for different searches. So these changes aren’t that surprising to see, and should actually make it easier to find what you are looking for, when you are searching. The Activity Cards should really come in handy, especially with the changes to Google Feed (which is now Discover).
Impact: While Activity Cards are going to make it easier to continue where you left off on some searches, but including Google Lens in Image Search is also a big deal. Not only does it mean that Google is adding Lens to more products (meaning it’s going to get more resources to get even better), but it’s also going to allow more people to use Lens, as not everyone knows that it exists on their phone in the camera app.
