A new Huawei-branded device bearing the model number commonly-associated with the as-yet-unannounced Huawei Y9 (2019) has now appeared at the FCC showing support for GSM, CDMA, and LTE. The handset is listed under the FCC reference number QISJKM-LX3 which indicates this is the model JKM-LX3. While the FCC listing doesn’t offer too many details about the inner workings of the Y9, the supported frequency bands do appear to have been outed. On the GSM side, the FCC has tested at 850 MHz and 1900 MHz, suggesting it should work with AT&T and possibly with T-Mobile, though only on a single band for the latter. On the CDMA side of the equation, tests were conducted at 850 MHz, 1700 MHz, and 1900 MHz, which means it will most likely work on both Verizon and Sprint, as well as US Cellular. Last but not least, the device has been tested for LTE bands 2, 4, 5, and 7.
After some digging into the other information contained within the documents, it also appears as though this handset will feature a 4,000 mAh battery. That’s the same capacity as the battery found in the 2018 edition of the Huawei Y9, adding futher weight to speculation this is a new Y9 phone. Although it remains unclear if that is going to be the exact capacity as other documents in the listing show a 3,900 mAh capacity battery. Battery aside, a microSD card slot and two SIM slots are part of the package, although the listing does not specify whether it’s a 2-in-1 hybrid SIM drawer or a separate SD slot in addition to the SIM drawer. Bluetooth 4.2 and a 3.5 mm headphone port are standard inclusions for the handset as well.
So far, there hasn’t been much in the way of leaks about this particular smartphone which is not surprising considering the 2018 variant of the Huawei Y9 was only just announced in March. So it may be a couple more months before anything official is announced by the company. The model number for the previous Y9 handset was FLA-LX3 and the device shipped with a 5.93-inch screen for interacting with Android 8.0 Oreo-based EMUI 8.0, as well as a HiSilicon Kirin 659 SoC backed up by 32GB of storage and 3GB RAM.
