A spec sheet said to belong to LG’s upcoming V40 Android flagship emerged online on Sunday, having been obtained by Android Pit from an anonymous industry source. The newly emerged information is largely in line with recent rumors about the handset that’s expected to succeed the LG V35 ThinQ in the coming weeks and adds more credence to reports claiming the phablet will feature five cameras in total – two on the front and a triple-lens system on the back. The main setup will use two 12-megapixel sensors mounted behind f/1.5 and f/2.4 lenses, as well as another 16-megapixel unit using an f/1.9 glass module.
The brightest lens is likely of the ultra-wide variety, whereas the f/2.4 one may be a telephoto module. The LG V40 presumably won’t use all three units simultaneously but shoot images with two at a time at most, similar to how the triple-camera setup found on the back of Huawei’s P20 Pro operates. The handset will also sport a display notch accommodating an 8-megapixel sensor supported by a 5-megapixel module. The addition of a second front-facing lens should allow the LG V40 to deliver selfies with a more natural bokeh effect. Google is another smartphone vendor that’s expected to take the same approach to mobile photography with this year’s Pixel 3 line rumored to be announced in the first half of October.
The LG V40 will be 158.7×75.8×7.79mm in size, weigh 169 grams, and feature a 6.4-inch POLED display with a QHD+ resolution and a 19.5:9 aspect ratio which will likely act as a more conventional 18:9 (2:1) image format when not accounting for the phone’s notch. Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 845 and 6GB of RAM will be part of the package as well, together with a choice between 64GB and 128GB of flash storage, according to the same report. The 3,300mAh battery found inside the LG V35 ThinQ will remain unchanged with its successor, the source claims. The South Korean tech giant is expected to announce the V40 by early November and will presumably do what it can to have the handset available for purchase in all major markets by this year’s holiday season.
