Nokia Camera With 3D Personas Available For Android 8.0+ Phones

In Short: A new Nokia Camera port brings ‘3D Personas’ to basically any smartphone that runs Android Oreo or Android Pie, though there are some exceptions, the Pixel 2 XL is struggling to run it, for example. This new Nokia Camera port comes from ‘linuxct’ XDA member, and in addition to offering the ‘3D Personas’ feature, it also brings Slow Motion and Timelapse modes, but those will work on a limited set of devices, so keep that in mind. Panorama, Live BOkeh, and Selfie Bokeh modes are also available in this port, but they also won’t work on all phones. All in all, this port is quite similar to the last one, with the exception of ‘3D Personas’ features.

Background: Some of you are probably wondering what is ‘3D Personas’, well, think of it as Animoji for Android. This is basically a feature that can create and control 3D emoji using your phone’s front-facing camera. It can map your facial expressions in order to create a 3D model of your face, in other words, make a 3D emoji out of it. Several 3D emoji aka 3D Personas are available to play around with by default, but not many. It is also worth noting that we’re looking at Nokia Camera v91.9.1130.40 here, changed from v8.1041.71. Nokia Camera app with Pro features is available on select Nokia-branded smartphones from HMD Global, and it actually offers quite a few features on the inside, main of which are the ones mentioned in the first paragraph.

Impact: You can try and sideload this Nokia Camera port on your phone, and see if it will run properly, it can’t hurt. You can get some interesting functionality with this camera app, especially if you do not have 3D emoji on your smartphone’s camera, and are eager to try out that feature. A link to download this camera port is included down below, just in case you’re interested.
