Google Classroom Gets New Student Selector Feature

Google announced in a blog post that it is introducing a new student selector feature to the Google Classroom app. This new feature makes it easier for teachers to select and tracks students who participate in activities, and the search giant designed the feature specifically for mobile devices like smartphones and tablets. In its support website, Google detailed how to use this new feature. To select a student who will participate in the activity and to view who has been picked so far, teachers may proceed to the Classroom app and then tap the Student Selector option, which can be found the People section of their class. Teachers may reset the student selector after an activity by pressing on the Start Again button although they may also press the Reset button twice to reset the selector in the middle of the lesson.

Aside from announcing a new feature, the search giant also detailed in its blog post some of the functionalities of the Google Classroom app that educators commonly use. A feature that teachers frequently utilize is the ability to draw or write on attachments. With this functionality, educators may provide feedback by encircling the mistakes made by the students or underlining the important concepts raised in the submitted document. Furthermore, both teachers and students may use the mobile application to capture images or record videos, and these files can be easily incorporated into the class activity. Meanwhile, the offline data feature of the Classroom app also allows teachers to edit, set up, and check their classes outside the school, even in locations that have poor internet connectivity.

Google is committed to improving the Classroom app by introducing features that are useful to both educators and students. In August, the tech firm introduced a redesigned Stream area that aims to encourage collaboration among students and a new comment bank where teachers can save and retrieve their commonly used feedback. Teachers may also copy and reuse activities on the Classroom app, which makes it easier for educators to set up their classes. Moreover, teachers also gained the ability to create quizzes directly from Google Classroom last June.
