In Short: A well-known tipster, Roland Quandt, has recently shared something rather interesting via his Twitter account, he suggested that Google may actually release the “Bonito’ smartphone. In his post, he claims that someone has been testing the Google “Bonito” on GFXBench, along with HMD “Phoenix”, which would end up being the Nokia 7.1 Plus. In any case, there’s a connection between these two smartphones, as both of them will be fueled by the Snapdragon 710, says Mr. Quandt. The Google “Bonito” is actually one of Google’s rumored Pixel phones, a small one, not the Pixel 3, but an even smaller one, more on that in a second.
Background: Google will introduce its new Pixel smartphones tomorrow, and the Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL are expected to arrive, as both phones have been leaking for months now, and we do have quite a few info when it comes to both of these phones. That being said, the Google “Bonito” smartphone rumor had surfaced recently, suggesting that the company may announce tiny smartphone as well, a phone that is smaller than the Google Pixel 3. If this rumor ends up being true, the Google Pixel “Bonito” will basically be in the category of the iPhone SE as far as size is concerned, though it remains to be seen if there’s any truth to that, as the Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL are the only two phones that have been mentioned until a couple of days ago. Speaking of which, the Google Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL will both be fueled by the Snapdragon 845 64-bit octa-core SoC, both phones will ship with Android 9 Pie out of the box, and both devices will include a single camera on the back, and a fingerprint scanner back there as well. The Pixel 3 will not sport a notch, unlike its Pixel 3 XL sibling.
Impact: If Google ends up releasing a tiny Pixel “Bonito” at some point, or as early as tomorrow, that would certainly be a surprise despite this report. The device will be inferior to the other two Pixel smartphones, and it’s not entirely impossible that may happen, as Google may want to test the mid-range market as well, though the device probably will not become official tomorrow.
