In Short: Roland Quandt has just shared a rather interesting piece of info via Twitter, the tipster claims that HMD Global is planning to release the Nokia 9 PureView in the near future. Now, as some of you probably already know, Nokia has acquired rights to use the PureView brand from Microsoft quite recently, and if the provided info is accurate, we may see that brand being utilized in the near future. HMD Global is hosting an event on October 4, but that’s not an event where this phone will become official, at least it’s not expected to. The Nokia 7.1 Plus will be introduced during that event, HMD Global’s mid-ranger. Needless to say, the Nokia 9 PureView is expected to become the company’s flagship smartphone, and possibly launch before the end of the year or in early 2019.
Background: The alleged Nokia 9 has been leaking for a long, long time now, but the company still didn’t announce it. The latest leaks we’ve seen have shown us a device with five cameras on the back, and that phone actually leaked quite a few times. Now, if recent rumors are to be believed, HMD Global has decided to postpone the launch of the Nokia 9 to next year for one reason or the other. The Nokia 8 was made official back in September last year, so the Nokia 9 was expected to arrive in September this year at the very latest, but that did not happen. Having said that, the device that leaked with five cameras on the back may actually be the Nokia 9 PureView, but we’ll have to wait and see what will happen.
Impact: The Nokia 9 PureView may become a direct successor to the Nokia 8, and an indirect one to the Nokia 8 Sirocco which was announced earlier this year. If HMD Global opts to launch the device by the end of this year or in early 2019, it will probably be fueled by the Snapdragon 845, though considering that we’re expecting Qualcomm’s next-gen flagship SoC to start reaching devices in March next year, HMD Global’s timing may be a bit off, as the Nokia 9 PureView will surely have a flagship price tag, and if the company releases it too late with the Snapdragon 845… well, the sales may not be where the company expects them to be.
