Following the OnePlus 6T’s launch, JerryRigEverything has performed a durability test on the device. That durability test got published via YouTube, as per usual, and if you’re interested to see how durable the device is, it may be worth checking out. The first test Jerry performed is the scratch test, which is something we’re used to seeing when it comes to his durability tests. In any case, the OnePlus 6T comes with the Gorilla Glass 6 display protection, and it got scratched with a level six pick, which is on par with other flagships out there. For tests purposes, Jerry scratches the phone’s display with a level six pick, right above the in-display fingerprint scanner, and that did not affect the performance of the fingerprint scanner, at all, seemingly. It is worth noting that such scratches are quite unrealistic when it comes to real life situations, like keys, regular knifes, and other such objects can not scratch the display so easily.
The phone’s front-facing camera is protected by the Corning’s Gorilla Glass 6 protection, same as the display, while the phone’s frame is made out of black anodized aluminum, which was the case with the OnePlus 6 as well. The power button, volume up & volume down buttons are made out of metal, same goes for the phone’s alert slider and SIM card tray. The company frosted the back glass on the device, so it’s easy to scratch, though you’ll be able to wipe those scratches off easily, as long as we’re talking about regular, everyday scratches from keys and what not. The phone’s rear-facing cameras and even dual-LED flash are protected by glass, and the phone’s display got exposed to a lighter flame for over 30 seconds, and barely affected the display, pixels recovered almost instantly. The last test that Jerry performed is the bend test, and even though the phone does bend a bit when you put pressure on it, both on the front and back, but it reverts back to its original position as soon as you stop.
Background: The OnePlus 6T got announced yesterday during the company’s press event in New York. The device offers a similar build to its predecessor, the OnePlus 6, but it does come with a noticeably smaller, ‘teardrop’ notch, and an in-display fingerprint scanner instead of a capacitive fingerprint scanner that you can find on the back of the OnePlus 6. The phone’s display is also larger, but the internals are mostly the same. The phone is fueled by the Snapdragon 845 64-bit octa-core processor, same as the OnePlus 6, and both phones share the same RAM setups as well. All three cameras sensors are identical on the OnePlus 6 and 6T, while the price tags are also quite similar, though that will depend on the market, as it does vary a bit.
Impact: The OnePlus 6T is basically just an evolution of the OnePlus 6, and that’s good news for the OnePlus 6 owners, as they will get all the camera improvements, and software improvements in general. OnePlus is planning to introduce its 5G-enabled smartphone in early 2019, even though 5G won’t be available until H2 next year, while the OnePlus 7 will probably follow in May or June, as the company’s CEO confirmed that the release of the company’s first 5G smartphone will not affect its usual smartphone releases. That also means that we’ll probably see the OnePlus 7T next year as well, in October or November.
