In Short:OnePlus has just released a new Open Beta update for the OnePlus 6, Open Beta 4, to be exact. This update will fix touch latency issue on the OnePlus 6, while it will also optimize standby power consumption, says the company. On top of that, Open Beta 4 will optimize UI for speed dial and call, while an issue with accidental answering the second call while using answer calls by gesture has also been fixed. Community 2.2.0 app will be installed on your device as well once you install this update, and the company has added ‘Community Notices’ as part of the app’s update. On top of that, New feed for following community members has been added, while stickied comments will be displayed on the top for you. OnePlus has also added more options to share threads to the app, while general user interface tweaks and bug fixes are also included, as far as the app is concerned. As per usual, do note that this update will not roll out to everyone immediately, it’s a staged rollout, so you may have to wait a bit to get it.
Background: As most of you know by now, OnePlus had started rolling out stable Android 9 Pie to the OnePlus 6 a while back, and this Open Beta 4 update is based on Android 9 Pie as well, of course. As part of Android 9 Pie, the device received quite a few new features and an interface update, and it seems like the update is relatively bug-free. The company actually managed to get that update out rather soon, sooner than HMD Global was able to push out Android 9 Pie to its Android One devices, actually. This is the first Open Beta update for the OnePlus 6 that arrived after the stable Android 9 Pie update for the device, in case you were wondering.
Impact: The OnePlus 6T is right around the corner, the device will most likely become official later this month, but the OnePlus 6 will not become obsolete once that happens, quite the contrary. The OnePlus 6 and 6T will sport the same processor, and quite probably RAM setups as well, not to mention that their displays will be the same, aside from a slight size difference. The OnePlus 6T will sport an in-display fingerprint scanner, though, and a noticeably smaller notch, but nothing that would make the OnePlus 6 obsolete or anything of the sort.
