According to a new report that surfaced in China, a 5G-enabled variant of the Samsung Galaxy S10 may actually ship with 12GB of RAM and 1TB of storage. This report comes from IT Home, and is based on info provided by GF Securities, which is a company based in Hong Kong. On top of that, the source claims that an in-display fingerprint scanner will also be included in this package, so at least one of the Galaxy S10 variants will include an in-display fingerprint scanner. The source mentions that quite a few users were displeased that Samsung included “only” 4GB of RAM in the Galaxy S9, so the company is now willing to completely change the game, and actually multiply that by four, at least when it comes to its premium Galaxy S10 offering. The source also mentions that the phone will arrive in white, black, yellow, and green variants, some of which will sport a gradient hue on the back. Now, IT Home also claims that the 5G-enabled Galaxy S10 variant will include a 6.7-inch display, while it will sport six cameras overall, four on the back, and two up front.
Background: Depending on which rumor you opt to believe, Samsung is planning to release either three or four Galaxy S10 variants next year, and interestingly enough, not a single rumor suggested that “only” two options will be launched. The Galaxy S10 and S10+ will probably be amongst the phones that get announced, while this “premium”, 5G-enabled Galaxy S10 will be the third option. Rumors have also been mentioned a really small Galaxy S10 unit, a truly compact phone, and a “budget” Galaxy S10 which will include “only” 4GB of RAM. Those two phones may actually end up being the same device, as it’s quite possible that the smallest Galaxy S10 unit ends up sporting the least RAM, but we’re only guessing. Interestingly enough, a Galaxy S10 with a ceramic back was also mentioned in a recent rumor, and that rumor suggested that a phone with a ceramic back will be available in both white and black colors. Now, the 5G-enabled Galaxy S10 unit may actually ship with a ceramic back, so those two rumors may actually be referring to the same device, as the phone with a ceramic back is also said to sport a 6.7-inch display, just like the 5G-enabled model of the Galaxy S10. Samsung will not be the first to release a ceramic smartphone, not even close, as Xiaomi has been doing that for quite some time now with its Mi MIX series of phones.
As far as the design is concerned, most rumors are claiming that the Galaxy S10 will sport a camera hole in the display, but that it will be bezel-less, aside from that. The Galaxy A8s is actually expected to become the very first Samsung-branded smartphone to sport a display camera hole, and it is expected to launch soon, but the Galaxy S10 will follow next year, it seems. The Galaxy S10 is expected to sport considerably thinner bezels than the Galaxy A8s, though, in case you were wondering, but that display camera hole will still prevent its design to be as clean as some people would have liked. The Galaxy S10 will also sport a curved display, well, one variant of the Galaxy S10 is rumored to ship with a flat display, actually, the “budget” model, but it remains to be seen how accurate those rumors are. The device will once again be made out of metal and glass, aside from the ceramic variant of the phone, and its display will sport rounded corners. Depending on the variant, the Galaxy S10 will ship with either two, three or four cameras on the back, at least if rumors are to be believed, though it’s hard to believe that Samsung would release three different Galaxy S10 units, and all three of them to sport different number of sensors on the back, it’s possible that Samsung will stick to three and four cameras on the back.
Having said that, the “budget” Galaxy S10 variant is rumored to sport a 5.8-inch display, just like the Galaxy S9, while the 5G-enabled variant will sport the largest display out of the bunch, a 6.7-inch panel. All Galaxy S10 units will be fueled by the same processor, well, processors, as the Galaxy S10 will ship in two SoC variants, just like the Galaxy S8 and S9 series. In The US and China, the Galaxy S10 will be fueled by the upcoming Snapdragon flagship processor, the Snapdragon 8150 or 855, depending on which name Qualcomm ends up opting for, while the Exynos 9820 will fuel the Galaxy S10 in Europe and India. The Galaxy S10 series is expected to become official in “early 2019”, and chances are it will launch in February during the Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona, unless Samsung opts to host a separate event for some reason.
Impact: So, if rumors are to be believed, Samsung will introduce at least three Galaxy S10 variants, though we may even get four different models, according to some reports. The Galaxy S10 is definitely one of the most anticipated smartphones of next year, and at least one of those variants will support 5G, even though 5G will not launch until H2 next year, and it will not become a standard anytime soon. The Galaxy S10 is not the only soon-to-launch Samsung flagship that consumers are looking for, as the company is expected to introduce its foldable smartphone in the near future as well. The company demoed its foldable smartphone at its developer’s conference recently, and is rumored to announce the phone in the first quarter of next year. That phone is rumored to be called the “Galaxy F”, and it will sport a flexible display which you will be able to fold, essentially. The Galaxy F is said to be extremely expensive, though, some rumors are suggesting that it may cost around $2,000, while all the Galaxy S10 units will cost much less than that, quite probably. All in all, we can expect to see quite a few Samsung-branded flagship phones launch in the first couple of months next year.
