Back on October 29, the company opened up a thread on its official forums in order to get OnePlus 6T-related questions from its consumers, and now the company has posted its responses for the gathered questions, though not all of them, of course. This is OnePlus’ very first AMA (Ask Me Anything) session, in case you were wondering. One of the users has concerns regarding the LED notification indicator, which is missing on the OnePlus 6T, while the OnePlus 6 has it. The user asked how the company is “going to take care of the missing notifications LED”. OnePlus responded by saying that it has improved its ambient display functionality, as you can pick up your phone in order to show you your notifications without fully powering on the display, and you can tap the display in order to see new notifications. OnePlus says that this is a convenient way to see your notifications without powering on the display, and thus saving battery. On top of that, the company said that it is considering adding an always-on display functionality, but that it has battery-draining concerns when it comes to that, so that nothing is certain just yet.
OnePlus has also confirmed that its new navigation gestures will be making their way to the OnePlus 5 and 5T, along with smart boost, but it also said that the new camera features that launched with the OnePlus 6T are hardware-dependent, so that they will not be making way to the OnePlus 5 and 5T. One of the users actually suggested that the company may implement an LED notifications light in its logo on the phone, in one of its future products, and the company basically said that it is considering all options, but that the LED notification light did not make way to the OnePlus 6T as the company wanted to minimize bezels as much as possible. One of the users asked the company what is the feature they’re most excited about when it comes to the OnePlus 6T, and the company’s co-founder, Carl Pei, said ‘Screen Unlock’, as it’s the most futuristic feature on the device.
The company confirmed that a tempered glass screen protector for the OnePlus 6T will be made available on its official website in the near future, while the company also said that the OnePlus 6T won’t be damaged by a bit of rain, or if you get it wet while washing dishes, but the company also said that you should definitely not go swimming with it. All in all, getting wet in regular day-to-day usage is fine, but anything out of the ordinary is not recommended. OnePlus confirmed that it does not have plans to release a smart band or a smartwatch at this time, but who knows what will happen in the future. Those of you who think that the OnePlus 6T is too large, well, you’re out of luck, as the company has confirmed that it has no plans to launch a smaller OnePlus smartphone at the moment.
On top of everything, the company also gave us some insight regarding the ‘Nightscape’ camera mode, as one of the users was quite interested in it. The company says that it is the most complex technology it has developed thus far, as it is combining a number of technologies into one. First comes Nightscape HDR, which fuses 10 frames together in order to get a good gripe of light and dark areas in an image. After that, the ‘Detail Optimization’ takes place in order to clear up the image and make it sharper, and the third one is ‘Noise Reduction’, which is kind of self-explanatory. The last step in the ‘Nightscape’ process is the multi-frame stabilization, which is supposed to avoid blurriness caused by the hand-shake, and OIS helps here, a lot, says the company. Background: The OnePlus 6T became official last week, it was announced in New York, and it is currently available in a number of markets out there. The OnePlus 6T shares quite a few specs with its predecessor, the OnePlus 6, as both devices are fueled by the same processor, and both come with the same RAM and camera setups. The OnePlus 6 already received an update in which it received all the camera features from the OnePlus 6T, and most of its software features as well. In any case, the OnePlus 6T does look a bit different than the OnePlus 6, as it sports a much smaller notch, and it does not come with a capacitive fingerprint scanner on the back. The OnePlus 6T utilizes an in-display fingerprint scanner instead, and that scanner is hidden under the display. The OnePlus 6T also comes with a considerably larger battery than the OnePlus 6, it sports a 3,700mAh unit, compared to a 3,300mAh one on the OnePlus 6, though truth be said, the OnePlus 6T does have a larger display as well, a 6.39-inch panel compared to a 6.28-inch one on the OnePlus 6.
Impact: In its OnePlus 6T AMA, OnePlus did share quite a bit of insight regarding the OnePlus 6T, and even some additional non-OnePlus 6T-related info. The company has no plans to release a smaller OnePlus flagship, as they want to focus on one phone at a time, and probably because the OnePlus X did not do as well as the company had hoped, though truth be said, the OnePlus X was a mid-range smartphone, not a flagship, so a flagship compact OnePlus smartphone may sell considerably better than the OnePlus X. People seem to be more interested in larger devices, though, so… that will not happen, at least not anytime soon. The company also confirmed that a smartwatch and a smart band are not coming soon, as they’re not in the company’s plans, and much more. It remains to be seen what comes next when it comes to OnePlus, but it seems like the company will introduce three phones next year, as it hinted recently that its first 5G-enabled devices will not be a part of its regular release cycle, so it may not be the OnePlus 7 after all, but nothing is confirmed just yet, so we’ll just have to wait and see what will happen in 2019.
