The Samsung Galaxy S10+’s front panel leaked several times thus far, and a fresh new leak has just appeared, reaffirming what we’ve seen thus far. If you take a look at the provided images, you will get to see the phone’s front panel, which has almost zero bezels. The phone will sport some bezels above and below the display, while a bottom bezel will be a hair thicker than the top one. You will also notice a cutout for an earpiece at the top of the display, and it’s also hard to miss those two cutouts in the top-right corner of the display. The phone’s display will be curved, which is also something this front panel reveals, and the display will also ship with rounded corners, same as its predecessor.
Is A Display Camera Hole A Better Solution Than A Notch?
It seems like display camera holes will replace notches in 2019, and the Galaxy S10 lineup is one of those phones that will ship with such a design. So, the question is, is this implementation better than including a display notch? Many people would say yes, as it’s smaller than more or less any notch out there, but I’m not so sure, to be quite honest. Display notches were easier to ignore, at least for me personally, especially if they’re not too large, so, for example, the OnePlus 6T’s display notch seems to be less obstructive on the content than a display camera hole, or display camera holes, as is the case with the Galaxy S10+. That being said, even if you’re having issues with display notches, you can always hide them via software. In other words, you can flip the switch and enable a black status bar up top which will blend in with the display notch, especially if you’re using a phone with an OLED display. That’s not an ideal solution, but it works really well with some phones, as you’re not even noticing the notch in most cases, and instead, you’re getting a really thin bezel up top, on which you can see your status bar icons, so that black bar is in use all the time, which makes it better than an actual bezel, and nothing is poking you in the eye in the process. So, as long as the notch is small enough, I do believe that it’s a better solution than a hole in the display which essentially acts as a large dead pixel on the display. The under-the-display camera technology will hopefully become available in the near future, so that OEMs can stop including punch holes in the display, but until then, we’ll be seeing quite a few smartphones with display camera holes, though some OEMs plan to use them for earpieces and what not, so get ready.
Galaxy S10+, The Story So Far
The Samsung Galaxy S10+ will be one of four Galaxy S10-branded smartphones in 2019, at least if rumors are to be believed. According to rumors, Samsung is actually planning to release the Galaxy S10 (which may be called the Galaxy S10 Edge for some reason), Galaxy S10 Lite, Galaxy S10+, and the “premium” Galaxy S10 unit. The Galaxy S10 (Edge) will have a single camera on the front, so its display camera hole will be less annoying than the two on the Galaxy S10+, that’s for sure. The Galaxy S10 Lite will also include one display camera hole, while it’s safe to assume that the “premium” unit will include two holes on the front as well, and it is expected to ship with four cameras on the back. The Galaxy S10+ will include three cameras on the back, if rumors are to be believed, which means it will have five in total. The phone will be made out of metal and glass, just like every other S10 unit except for the “premium” one, that variant is rumored to ship with a ceramic backplate. All the Galaxy S10 units are expected to ship with the Snapdragon 855 in the US and China, while the Exynos 9820 will fuel them in Europe and India. The Galaxy S10+ is expected to include at least 6GB of RAM, while it will ship with Android 9 Pie out of the box, and Samsung’s brand new One UI skin. The phone is also expected to support wireless charging, fast charging, and be IP68 certified.
