If you’re a Gboard user, you probably know that there are a ton of themes available for that keyboard, within the app itself. Well, it seems like a bunch of new themes have arrived, at least to the beta version of the app. These newly-added themes are divided into Light Gradient and Dark Gradient themes, and if you like gradient themes, well, there’s lots to choose from here. Google has added 25 Light Gradient and 29 Dark Gradient themes to the app, according to the source, though we’re still not seeing these themes in the stable version of the application. This is not exactly a new feature that needs to be tested in detail, it’s just a background of your keyboard, so Google will probably roll these out to the stable build of Gboard really soon. Do keep in mind that this seems to be a server-side change on Google’s part, as some users were able to get those themes via Gboard beta v7.8.8, while others still can’t see them, despite the fact they have that version installed, including us. These themes are not limited to Google’s Pixel phones, if that’s you’re afraid of, as they will soon arrive to all devices which are running Gboard beta, and soon after that Gboard stable as well. You can download Gboard beta manually (from the link down below), if you’re impatient and would like to try the beta build of the keyboard in order to see whether these themes are available for your phone or not.
Background: Google has been constantly improving its Gboard app, as the company has added plenty of features this year. Back in November, the company rolled out AI content suggestions to Gboard, which basically made the app even smarter, as it was able to offer better suggestions overall. A month before that, “Mini Stickers” arrived to the application, and that feature basically allows you to create your very own stickers. All you have to do, is take a selfie, and the app will create sticker packs based on that image, and you can even alter those stickers if you’re not happy with the result. The company also added a clipboard manager to the application a couple of months ago, and those are only changes from the last couple of months, many more features have been added earlier in the year.
Impact: The addition of these gradient themes is not earth-shattering, or anything of the sort, but gradient smartphone colors are quite popular these days, so some people probably want such keyboard themes as well in order to customize their phone to the max. Not to say that gradient themes were not available in Gboard thus far, but these new additions are quite welcomed, as not many gradient options were available up to this point, and Google has added over 50 gradient themes in one single swoop.
