Google Announces Google Play's "Best of 2018" Awards

Google has just announced Google Play’s “Best of 2018” awards, as the company does on a yearly basis, before a particular year comes to a close. The company has announced Google Play’s top content across applications, games, movies, TV, and books. Now, you will notice a lot of familiar categories here, but the company has added a brand new category as well this year, the “Fan Favorite” category, which allowed users to cast their votes and select the very best content that they’ve enjoyed. Having said that, all of these lists are available in the “Best of 2018” section in the Play Store, while we will talk more about specific awards in the following paragraphs, but you’ll need to visit Google’s Play Store listing in order to get the full picture, as the company handed out a ton of awards in various categories.

Let’s start with the Fan Favorites of 2018, shall we. PUBG Mobile got crowned the best game according to users, YouTube TV apps won the best app of the year award, while Avengers: Infinity War took away the glory in the “Movie” section. Neither of these is a surprise, PUBG Mobile is quite probably the most popular Android game of this year, YouTube TV is definitely one of the most popular apps, and Avengers: Infinity War is one of the biggest blockbusters of the year, and one that actually got good reviews, and crushed all sorts of records. Now, as far as Google’s very own awards are concerned, Drops: Learn 31 new languages won the “Best App of 2018” award, while PUBG Mobile actually won the “Best Game of 2018” award by Google as well. As far as movies go, these are Google’s top five movies of 2018, respectively: Black Panther, Avengers: Infinity War, Thor: Ragnarok, Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle, and Deadpool 2.

As far as TV shows are concerned, Google selected The Walking Dead, Riverdale, The Big Bang Theory, The Flash, and PAW Patrol. If you’re into ebooks, these are Google’s top five choices for 2018, respectively: Fire and Fury by Michael Wolff, The Outsider by Stephen King, Fear by Bob Woodward, 12 Rules for Life by Jordan B. Peterson, and Girl, Wash Your Face by Rachel Hollis. If you’re more into audiobooks, well, four out of five ebooks actually made it into this category as well, these are Google’s top audiobooks choices for this year: 12 Rules for Life, Girl, Wash Your Face, Fear, Becoming, and The Outsider.

Background: As already mentioned, Google does this every year, and same as before, you can access all of the content that we’ve mentioned here via the company’s “Best of 2018” section in the Google Play Store that is linked above. Google has allowed users to vote for their favorite app, game, and movie, while all the other categories have been chosen by Google based on their performance in the Play Store, and truth be said, none of these comes as a huge surprise.

Impact: If you’re often browsing through the Play Store, chances are you’re more than familiar with most of these apps, movies, games, TV shows, ebooks, and audiobooks, depending on what you’re into, but if you’re not, you can always navigate to the provided link, and try out any of the content Google mentioned.
