Ulefone has just announced that its Armor 6 smartphone will be one of the first rugged smartphones to support 5G connectivity, if not the first one. The company shared this announcement in form of a video teaser on YouTube, in which the company mentions the Armor 6 by name, clearly says “World’s First 5G Rugged Phone”, and in the video itself, the MediaTek Helio M70 baseband chip is being teased as well, a baseband chip that was announced by the company about a week ago.
As far as the device itself is concerned, the Ulefone Armor 6 will be fueled by the Helio P60 64-bit octa-core processor by MediaTek, so just to make it clear, the M70 is not a processor, it’s a baseband chip, or it will be, as we don’t have any additional info at this point. The Ulefone Armor 6 will include 6GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage, while you will be able to find two cameras on the back of the phone. 21 and 13-megapixel cameras will be included on the back, while a single 13-megapixel camera will sit on the front side of the device. A 6.2-inch display will also be a part of the package, though we do not know what resolution will it sport just yet, even though a fullHD+ resolution will probably be included. A 5,000mAh battery will sit on the inside of this smartphone, and it will not be removable.
Ulefone did not reveal the full design of the Armor 6, but it did share a render in the provided video which kind of reveals what can we expect. It seems like the phone will include a rather wide notch at the top of the display, but its bezels will not be as thick as on some other rugged phones. The device will be made mostly out of metal, but it will offer some other materials to handle drops better, and the company also promises that the phone will be quite grippy. Ulefone says that the Armor 6 will be officially announced in January, but that the initial version will not support 5G. The 5G variant of the phone will go into testing in the second quarter of 2019 in collaboration with China Mobile, so it’s not clear when will it become official.
