According to a new report from India, both the Samsung Galaxy Fold and Galaxy A50 will become official in the country in 2019. The source claims that it will happen soon after both devices become official on a global scale, though these two phones probably will not launch at the same time, in case you were wondering. The Samsung Galaxy Fold is quite probably one of the more interesting phones in 2019, as it will become the company’s very first foldable smartphone, while the Galaxy A50 is more of a regular mid-ranger. The Galaxy A50’s release date is still a mystery, though the Galaxy Fold is rumored to arrive in March, the phone will quite probably launch first in either South Korea, or perhaps in the US / Europe, depending on what Samsung decides, and if the company opts to launch it during a separate event, or as part of the Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona. It is worth noting that the Galaxy S10 series is also expected to launch during MWC 2019, and it’s highly unlikely that both will be presented there, so Samsung will almost certainly host a separate event either for the Galaxy Fold’s launch, or for the launch of its Galaxy S10 smartphones.
Samsung Galaxy Fold Is… Foldable!
Samsung has been working on a foldable smartphone for a long time now, and a while back, the company actually showed off its upcoming foldable smartphone during its developer’s conference, though the phone’s design was obstructed by a heavy-duty case, so we didn’t really get to see its design properly. In any case, the device’s display folds right down the middle, and when folded, its secondary display activates. When you unfold it, the secondary display shuts down, and basically moves to the back of the phone, while the phone’s main panel activates. The company did demonstrate all this at its press conference, though the transition between the main and secondary panels wasn’t as instantaneous as it should be, so the company is clearly still optimizing the device. The device is rumored to be quite expensive, actually, as rumors are saying that it may cost around $2,000 even. The phone will probably be fueled by either the Snapdragon 855 or the Exynos 9820, it may even arrive in both variants. Samsung still did not confirm the “Galaxy Fold” name for the device, but that name has been trademarked by the company, and it fits the phone perfectly, so chances are that will be its final name. The device will be based on Android, and chances are it will pack a rather large battery, mainly due to its huge display, so you can expect to see a 5,000mAh or 6,000mAh battery, at least if rumors are to be believed. I have to admit I’m rather skeptical when it comes to foldable smartphones, as bezels on such phones won’t be as thin as they should be, and the phones will be considerably thicker than your modern smartphones, so I don’t know what would make me carry it around instead of a regular phone, as I do find today’s 6+-inch displays to be more than large enough. Opinions do differ, though, so you may disagree completely.
Galaxy A50 Info
Not much info is available when it comes to the Galaxy A50, but some spec info did surface recently. The phone is rumored to sport a 4,000mAh battery, and an in-display fingerprint scanner, despite the fact it’s a mid-range phone. A 24-megapixel camera will, allegedly, be included on the back of this phone, while the Exynos 9610 SoC is rumored to fuel the phone. The device will include 4GB of RAM, as per rumors, while you will be able to choose between 64GB and 128GB storage versions. All in all, the Galaxy A50 is supposed to introduce in-display fingerprint scanners to mid-range smartphones, at least as far as Samsung’s mid-rangers are concerned. The phone is also rumored to sport a “new” Infinity display, and that probably means we’ll see a display with a camera hole in it, but we’ll have to wait in order to see how accurate those rumors are. The phone will launch in either first or second quarter of the year, we’re still not sure what Samsung is planning in this regard, but stay tuned, more info will probably surface soon.
