A new benchmark result reveals that Samsung Electronics is working on a new mid-range tablet offering equipped with the Exynos 7885 chipset. Users may identify the device through its model number SM-T515, and according to the benchmark result, this chipset obtained a single-core score of 1277 points and a multi-core score of 4031 points. The result reveals that the device will include 2GB of RAM and that the tablet will ship with Android 9 Pie pre-installed. However, it is likely that the latest version of Samsung’s proprietary skin, One UI, will run on top of Google’s operating system.
The Exynos 7885 SoC is the same chipset found in several recent mid-range smartphone offerings of the South Korean tech giant, which include the Samsung Galaxy A8 (2018) and the Galaxy A7 (2017), and Samsung will also reportedly include the processor in some of the company’s upcoming devices like the Galaxy A40 and the Galaxy M20. The chipset features two ARM Cortex A73 CPU cores running at a maximum clock speed of 2.2GHz, six Cortex A53 CPU cores clocked at up to 1.6GHz, and the Mali-G71 MP2 GPU.
It is also likely that the upcoming Samsung tablet will feature One UI, which is the latest version of Samsung’s proprietary skin. One UI brings several significant user interface changes to Samsung devices. For example, the company reduced the amount of information presented to the person at any given time, which should help people focus on the task at hand. Furthermore, the interactive elements shown on the screen are now limited to the options relevant to the action currently performed by the user. The software overlay also introduces a system-wide dark mode and rounded elements. The tech firm also redesigned the quick settings panel of the user interface, and it now includes bigger buttons for individual settings, larger text, and wider spaces between the options. Since this tablet also comes with Android 9 Pie, users of the device may take advantage of the operating system’s features that improve the tablet’s power efficiency.
Aside from the tablet with the model number SM-T515, Samsung will also reportedly launch at least four more tablets over the coming months. These four tablets have the model numbers SM-P200, SM-P205, SM-T720, and SM-T725. The tech firm will likely market the SM-P200 and the SM-P205 as part of the Galaxy Tab A lineup, and these devices may differ in display sizes. One of the tablets may have a 7.0-inch display while the other variant has a 10.5-inch panel. Meanwhile, the SM-T720 and SM-T725 are also expected to be launched as part of the same device brand. While there is limited information available about the design of the SM-T515 tablet, recent reports say that the device will have a silver color option.
The latest benchmark result suggests that Samsung will market the device as a mid-range tablet, and its launch continues Samsung’s strategy to produce different products that cater to a wide range of customers. This strategy helps Samsung keep its dominant position in the Android tablet market. However, it is interesting to see if the South Korean tech giant will also relaunch its tablet lineup, similar to what the company will reportedly do for its smartphone products.
