Sony Xperia XZ4 Leaked Specs Indicate Ridiculously Tall Display & Massive Battery Capacity

Although Sony’s upcoming flagship Xperia XZ4 has leaked numerous times already, the specifications sheet that has shown up recently might be a tad bit more credible than the previously reported information as it apparently comes from Sony’s official Chinese or Taiwanese website. It appears that the specifications sheet was prematurely uploaded on the website as the device has not been officially announced yet. However, it’s worth mentioning that the listing doesn’t mention the Sony Xperia XZ4 per se, but since these are high-end specifications, they might indeed belong to the Xperia XZ4.

The leaked specifications sheet largely corroborates the previous reports, although there are some bits that are new and don’t really add up. Per the leaked specifications sheet, the upcoming Xperia XZ4 will sport a 6.5-inch OLED display with a tall aspect ratio of 21:9 and a QHD+ resolution of 1440 x 3360 pixels. The display will allegedly support HDR as well and it will be protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 5, similar to the Xperia XZ3 released last year. According to previous reports, the display would be manufactured by LG.

The specification sheet also says that the upcoming Sony flagship will be fueled by Qualcomm’s new Snapdragon 855 chipset that has been made using the 7nm process and can be paired with the Snapdragon X50 modem for 5G support. Furthermore, the leaked sheet says that the phone will have 6GB of RAM and 128GB of internal memory which will be expandable up to 512GB with a microSD card slot. The leak also reveals that the phone will ship with Android 9 Pie. Those are slightly higher specs than we’ve seen on previous Sony handsets.

Now, here is the confusing bit. According to the leaked sheet, the Sony Xperia XZ4 will pack in a huge 4,400mAh battery whilst managing to weight only 191 grams. Moreover, the leaked listing also mentions that the phone will be 8.2 mm in thickness, and given this dimension, it’s hard to imagine how Sony would fit in such a colossal battery inside the handset.  Theoretically, this is doable but it seems more likely that the phone will come with a 3,900mAh battery, as was rumored previously. Capacity aside, the latest leak also indicates that the phone will support Qi wireless charging, Qnovo Adaptive charging, and USB PD.

Moving on, the phone will reportedly be 72mm in width and 167mm in height. The Sony Xperia XZ4 will allegedly be IP68 certified which means it will be dust and water resistant. Color options seemingly include black, blue, blue, and deep purple. The listing doesn’t say anything about the camera configurations, but previous leaks had alleged that the Sony Xperia XZ4 will feature a triple camera setup.

Although Sony hasn’t officially confirmed that the Xperia XZ4 is in the works yet, the phone will most probably be unveiled at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) which will take place in February in Barcelona, Spain. You can check out the leaked specifications sheet below, although it’s better to not read too much into it as the screenshot has come from an unverified source.
