New renders have now appeared online and are said to be of a revised version of the Fitbit Versa, which Fitbit may launch as the Fitbit Versa 2.
If the images are indeed of a new version of the popular wearable, then it would seem the Fitbit Versa 2 will likely feature the same appearance and structure as its predecessor, which offered a squircle case design and a square display. The left side of the wearable holds a single button, and while the leaked renders may not show it, the right side of the smartwatch will likely have two buttons like its predecessor.
The back of the wearable houses the pins of the charger, and the manufacturer will likely use aerospace-grade aluminum for the smartwatch’s case. According to the latest leak, the device will be available in four color variants: Cyan Blue, Purple, Rose Pink, and Silver.
Aside from the images, the leak does not provide too much information on what else the new watch will have to offer other than stating it will include a pulse heart rate monitor and a 50M water-resistance certification. The latter of which typically means users can submerge the smartwatch for a limited period without damaging the product. Rumors also say that the Fitbit Versa 2 will include a 6-axis sensor, which may allow the device to support gestures on its user interface or track specific exercises. However, the report suggests the wearable will still not feature standalone GPS navigation.
Otherwise it is expected that the Fitbit Versa 2 will retain many of the same specifications of its predecessor. The original Fitbit Versa featured a three-axis accelerometer, three-axis gyroscope, optical heart rate monitor, altimeter, ambient light sensor, blood oxygen sensor, and Wi-Fi antennas that support the 802.11 b/g/n standard. While Fitbit did not specify the size of the lithium-ion battery included with its previous-generation smartwatch, the device maker claimed that its product featured at least four days of battery life.
Fitbit launched the original Fitbit Versa back in March 2018, and it became available to consumers around a month after that. This device had a significantly cheaper price tag compared to the Fitbit Ionic, although the lower cost came with several compromises, which included reduced battery life and lack of GPS functionality. Furthermore, the regular editions of the device do not have NFC, which prevents people from using the wearable to pay for their purchased items through Fitbit Pay.
It is currently not clear if Fitbit will introduce modifications to the software of the Fitbit Versa 2, although the wearable’s predecessor ran the same operating system as the Fitbit Ionic. If there are no significant modifications made to the wearable’s software, the Fitbit Versa 2 will likely support many applications at launch, which may include apps from Strava, Pandora, Deezer, and Starbucks.
If the leaked renders are correct, there seems to be no meaningful change in the hardware design of the Fitbit Versa 2. This development could mean that the price tag of the Fitbit Versa 2 will likely remain similar to its predecessor. In other words, around $199 at launch.
