A well-known tipster, Evan Blass (aka evleaks), has shared a rather interesting tweet today. In that tweet, Blass posted three words “Samsung Galaxy Fold”, seemingly suggesting the name of Samsung’s upcoming device. That’s pretty much everything he said, but it’s quite obvious what he meant by sharing this.
This information actually goes against what Ishan Agarwal shared about a week ago. Agarwal shared a tip that he received, claiming that the device will actually be called the “Galaxy Winner”. That name seems out of place, and was an odd choice from the get-go, but Agarwal claimed it was accurate. So, it basically remains to be seen who is right, Ishan Agarwal or Evan Blass.
When Is The Device Coming?
Samsung’s very first foldable smartphone, no matter what will it be called, is expected to arrive in the near future. Some reports even suggested that it will launch during the company’s Galaxy S10 Unpacked event on February 20, while Samsung also shared some teasers regarding that, but that’s hard to believe. Launching a foldable smartphone on February 20 would take away from the Galaxy S10 series impact, so Samsung may share some info about the device on February 20, but it probably will not launch the device.
Having that in mind, when will it arrive? If we had to guess, we’d say that it will launch in the Spring or Summer, though way before the Galaxy Note10. Samsung knows what it is doing when it comes to smartphone launches, and the company is aware that launching a foldable smartphone is a big deal, while it does not want to hurt its other high-end brands at the same time.
Design & Specifications
Samsung showed off its demo foldable smartphone during its developer’s press conference at the end of last year, and that more or less confirmed that the phone will fold like a book, while a secondary display will be included on the back. That secondary display comes to life the moment you fold the device, as expected.
The company also accidentally shared a promo video a while back, a promo video which briefly shows off the company’s foldable smartphone. That video also confirmed that the company will go with this approach, though the device in that video was considerably larger than the demo unit Samsung showed off last year. Truth be said, the device shown in the promo video is probably closer to reality.
Now, in terms of specs, it’s safe to assume that the Galaxy Fold, or whatever ends up being called, will be fueled by the Snapdragon 855 or Exynos 9820. The phone will also pack in at least 6GB of RAM, though it’s possible Samsung may include way more than that. The phone will also include plenty of storage, and both panels used on the device will be OLED displays. In terms of pricing, the Galaxy Fold is actually expected to be quite expensive, reports are claiming that it will cost around $1,500, though it remains to be seen if there’s any truth there.
