LG has trademarked a new products name with the EUIPO (European Union Intellectual Property Office), the “G8S”. Now, the LG G8 ThinQ is expected to become official on February 24, as part of the Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona, and the G8S may be a variant of that smartphone.
We are only guessing here, as that trademark filing did not provide any additional info, other than the “G8S” trademark, so it could be an upcoming handset, while LG may use it for a different purpose, or not at all. In any case, some of you will also notice that it is missing the “ThinQ” branding, though that branding could be added after the fact, of course.
LG had introduced a couple of G7 variants since the LG G7 ThinQ arrived last year, including the LG G7 Fit and G7 One. Both of those devices resembled the LG G7 ThinQ, but were inferior to LG’s flagship, of course. The LG G7 Fit was fueled by the Snapdragon 821 SoC, while it sported 4GB of RAM and a 6.1-inch QHD+ display. The LG G7 One, on the other hand, was the company’s Android One smartphone fueled by the Snapdragon 835. That device also included a 6.1-inch QHD+ display, while it was also equipped with 4GB of RAM.
LG will almost certainly announce some spin-offs to the LG G8 ThinQ by the end of the year, though it remains what will they be named. The LG G8S may be a mid-range variant of the device, or something of the sort, it remains to be seen.
LG G8 ThinQ, The Story Thus Far
Based on what we’ve seen thus far in terms of rumors and leaks, the LG G8 ThinQ will be made out of metal and glass, like its predecessor. The device will include a display notch, though smaller than the G7 ThinQ, and it will ship with two cameras on the back. A fingerprint scanner will be placed on the back of the device, if leaks are accurate, while the “ThinQ” branding will remain attached to the device.
The LG G8 ThinQ is expected to retain the 3.5mm headphone jack, while it will also sport a thin “chin” below the display. The phone will almost certainly be fueled by the Snapdragon 855 64-bit octa-core processor, while it will include at least 6GB of RAM on the inside. A QHD+ OLED display is expected to be included as well, and that display will probably be larger than 6 inches.
LG Innotek had confirmed recently that the G8 ThinQ will sport a front-facing ToF (Time of Flight) camera, and based on LG teasers, some sort of air gestures will be included in the package. The LG G8 ThinQ is expected to provide a great audio experience, as its predecessors did, so we’re expecting to see a really powerful DAC on the inside, while wireless charging will be included as well. The phone will probably include IP68 certification for water and dust resistance, while it will probably be MIL-STD-810G certified as well.
All of this info is based on rumors and assumptions, but it’s quite probably close to the reality. The LG G8 ThinQ will probably have a couple of surprises up its sleeve, though, so we’ll have to wait for February 24 in order to get the full picture.
