OnePlus is now rolling out a new stable update for the OnePlus 6 and 6T, in the form of OxygenOS 9.0.4 and 9.0.12, respectively. This is not a huge upgrade for the two devices, and is more of incremental update, and while the same update is hitting both devices, some optimizations are only coming to the 6T.
In terms of the changes for both devices, the OnePlus 6 and 6T are getting the January 2019 Android security patch. The company has also listed general bug fixes and system improvements in the changelog, with the changes designed to further optimize the experience offered by both phones. The most notable change in these two updates is what OnePlus refers to as a “deep integration with Google Duo.” The company did not massively elaborate on this although it seems the general idea is to make Duo a more integral part of OxygenOS going forward.
One change that only applies to OnePlus 6T users is to do with the phone’s display. As is usually the case, OnePlus did not elaborate on this change either and so you may or may not notice the difference. Either way, some display-related optimizations have been included in the update and are specific to the OnePlus 6T.
More Changes Coming
Last month, OnePlus started pushing out new Open Beta updates for the OnePlus 6 and 6T. Some of those features were expected to be included in the next stable update for both phones, but that does not seemed to have happened yet based on the details provided by the company. OnePlus added OnePlus laboratory to the OnePlus 6 with that update, while it also optimized the screenshot function on both phones.
In addition, the OnePlus 6 and 6T that previously received the beta update gained the ability to use the Quick Reply feature even if the phone is in landscape mode. This is as well as Gaming mode enhancements, improvements to the “Clock” app on both phones, and the update also included a world clock option with weather information support.
The latest Open Beta updates for both phones brought quite a few changes to the OnePlus 6 and 6T, and yet not a single one of those changes made it to stable updates detailed today. Therefore, it would seem likely that most, if not all of these will be included in the next stable update for the two devices. At present, there’s not word on when that update will arrive.
OnePlus Is Asking for Your Input
About a week ago, OnePlus actually started asking for user input when it comes to OxygenOS. The company has opened up a new contest called “PMChallenge” in which the company is asking you to suggest new features for OxygenOS in order to further improve it. The company created a simplified version of the product pitch process that its product managers use on a daily basis, to make it easy for users to submit their ideas. That contest is open until February 22, so if you do have a great idea, feel free to send it to OnePlus.
