Xiaomi previously announced that “Redmi” is becoming a separate entity, essentially a sub-brand, and the company has already released one catch-all phone since then, but it seems like it’s planning to introduce a flagship device as well. Its executive basically just confirmed that a Snapdragon 855-powered Redmi smartphone is coming.
This information was confirmed by Lu Weibing, a CEO of Redmi, and a former Gionee president. He confirmed the news via his official Weibo (Chinese social network) account, by posting a photo of him and Redmi crew in Xiaomi’s Shenzhen R&D institute, where the future of Redmi has been discussed, as well as the company’s upcoming devices.
Mr. Weibing did not really want to hide anything, as he revealed that he and his crew talked about two smartphones during that meeting, the Redmi Note 7 Pro, and a Snapdragon 855-powered flagship. There is still no info when it comes to the Snapdragon 855-powered flagship, other than the fact it will be the company’s new flagship handset, and it will probably be more affordable than the Xiaomi Mi 9 which Xiaomi is expected to announce in the near future.
At this point in time, we do not know how far away in its planning is Redmi, when it comes to the Snapdragon 855-powered flagship, but considering that Mr. Weibing arrived to the company not long ago, and considering the fact that the company became a separate entity not long ago, the Redmi-branded Snapdragon 855-powered device may not arrive as soon as you think.
Redmi Note 7 Pro, What To Expect?
As far as the Redmi Note 7 Pro is concerned, it’s safe to say that it will be similar to the Redmi Note 7 in many ways. The Redmi Note 7 Pro is basically expected to sport the same design as the Redmi Note 7, and probably even the same size, but it will include a more powerful processor on the inside, and quite possibly more RAM.
The Redmi Note 7 is fueled by the Snapdragon 660 64-bit octa-core processor, which managed to surprise quite a few people, as the Snapdragon 710 was expected. Well, the Redmi Note 7 Pro will not go the Snapdragon 710 route either, it seems, as rumors are claiming that Xiaomi will include the Snapdragon 675 64-bit octa-core SoC instead. The device is expected to ship with t6GB of RAM, compared to 3GB, 4GB, and 6GB RAM Redmi Note 7 variants.
The Redmi Note 7 Pro is expected to sport the same design as the Redmi Note 7, which means it will be made out of metal and glass, and it will sport a waterdrop display notch, along with a thin “chin” below the display. The phone will probably include two cameras on the back, 48 and 5-megapixel cameras, while a single 13-megapixel camera will be utilized on its front side.
Expectations For Redmi’s SD855 Flagship
No info has been shared about this phone, but it’s quite possible it will be made out of metal and glass. It is still unclear whether it will sport a display notch or a display camera hole, but chances are we’ll see one of the two included on the phone. Two or three cameras will be placed on the back of the device, and in addition to the Snapdragon 855, you can expect to see at least 6GB of RAM, at least that’s our guess.
Redmi will probably want to include a rather large display on this phone, though it’s not out of the question that we’ll see more than one variant of the device available in the market. Android 9 Pie is expected to come pre-installed on the device, along with Xiaomi’s MIUI 10, while it remains to be seen if Xiaomi will opt for a capacitive fingerprint scanner, or an in-display one.
