Samsung’s foldable smartphone will probably be announced in the near future, and two seemingly official press images of the device have just surfaced online. One of these images not only shows off part of the device, but it also mentions the “Galaxy Fold” name, which will allegedly be the name of Samsung’s very first foldable handset.
These two images show off a device that folds in and out like a book, which goes hand-in-hand with what Samsung showed off during its developer’s conference, and the device that leaked in the company’s promo video which was taken down shortly after being published. This handset will have a secondary display on the back, which will light up when the phone is folded.
The first image in the gallery down below give you a glimpse of a hinge, and you also get to see the bottom of the phone, together with a loudspeaker and a Type-C USB port which are included down there, along with a microphone. This image suggests that the phone will sport a frame made out of metal (probably aluminum), as expected.
The second image in the gallery also shows the phone’s front side, allegedly (based on the fold), though that’s quite weird as the right side of the device has a rather strong border at the top, and a rather large chunk of the top of the device is reserved for the camera. That border is not included on the left side of the display, and truth be said, this looks more like the back of the device. All in all, it’s quite odd.
Will The Galaxy Fold Launch Today?
Samsung is hosting its Unpacked event in San Francisco today, where the Galaxy S10 series will be announced, but will the same happen with the Galaxy Fold? Well, it is possible, and if that is the case, Samsung did a great job of keeping it a secret. It is more possible, though, that Samsung plans to tease the arrival of its foldable phone, but will not fully announce it today as that would take away the spotlight from the Galaxy S10e, S10, and S10+.
The Galaxy Fold will probably be the name of the device, as the company trademarked that name a while back, along with the “Galaxy Flex”, and Evan Blass suggested recently that Samsung is going with this name. Ishan Agarwal recently hinted that the phone may be called the “Galaxy Winner” instead, so it remains to be seen which tipster was right this time around.
What Else Do We Know?
Some rumors regarding the company’s foldable smartphone did surface over the last couple of months, and they mentioned the phone’s possible price tag, along with some display spec info. The Galaxy Fold is rumored to cost at least $1,500, though its price tag will vary from one market to the other.
In terms of specs, the phone is rumored to sport a 7.3-inch main display, and a 4.6-inch secondary one, which you can use when the device is folded. The main display is rumored to sport a resolution of 2152 x 1536, and the phone will almost certainly be fueled by either the Snapdragon 855 or Exynos 9820, though it’s possible that Samsung will utilize both processors as it will with the Galaxy S10 series (market dependent).
