Vivo has just announced its new smartphone with a pop-up camera, the Vivo V15Pro. The pop-up camera is not the only eye-catching feature of the device, as the phone also comes with almost no bezel, and it has an in-display fingerprint scanner as well. The device is made out of metal and glass, its back side is curved, and the reflection on the back is quite interesting as well.
Let’s start with the front side. The phone features a huge 6.39-inch fullHD+ (2340 x 1080) Super AMOLED display with an aspect ratio of 19.5:9, there is a thin “chin” included below that display, while the display also comes with rounded corners. That display is flat, though the back side of the device is curved on the sides. Vivo’s branding can be found on the back of the phone, along with three cameras and a dual-LED flash, more on that later.
On the right side of the device, you will be able to find both the phone’s volume up and volume down buttons, while the power / lock key is also included here. There is one physical key included on the left-hand side of the device as well, and that button can launch the Google Assistant, and even though Vivo did not confirm anything, we do believe that this button is remappable.
The Vivo V15Pro is fueled by the Snapdragon 675 64-bit octa-core processor clocked at 2GHz, which is one of Qualcomm’s most powerful mid-range processors. The device includes 6GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage (expandable up to 256GB via a microSD card). A 3,700mAh battery is included in the package as well, while it has “Dual-Engine fast charging”. Interestingly enough, Vivo included a micro USB port at the bottom of this phone, not a Type-C port.
Android 9 Pie comes pre-installed on the Vivo V15Pro, along with the company’s Funtouch OS 9, while the device includes two SIM card slots (2x nano SIM). A 3.5mm headphone jack is also included in the package, while the phone supports Dual 4G VoLTE, in case you were wondering, and support for Bluetooth 5 is also on board.
As mentioned earlier, the Vivo V15Pro has three cameras on the back, 48-megapixel (quad pixel 1/2.25” sensor, f/1.8 aperture), 5-megapixel (depth sensor, f/2.4 aperture), and 8-megapixel (AI 120-degree, super wide angle camera, f/2.4 aperture) cameras. The phone’s main sensor will actually provide you with 12-megapixel images in the end, but thanks to Vivo’s processing, those images are supposed to be really good, similar to what we’ve seen with the HONOR View20.
A 32-megapixel (Samsung’s ISOCELL GD1 sensor, f/2.0 aperture) camera is placed on the front side of the phone, and it is hidden when you’re not using it. It is also worth saying that the Vivo V15Pro’s in-display fingerprint scanner can unlock the device in 0.37 seconds, while the phone’s face unlock feature can do the same in 0.55 seconds by scanning 1.024 facial points.
Vivo has also included its AI assistant called “Jovi”. The company says that Jovi comes with an AI-powered Image Recognizer which has access to almost 100 mainstream e-commerce platforms, so it can let you search various databases with ease.
Vivo says that the V15Pro will be available in a number of markets on a global basis, as this is a global handset, it’s not aimed for the Chinese market.
