Sony Xperia XZ4 To Feature Incredible 52MP Camera: Report

The Sony Xperia XZ4 will be announced later this month, and some more info regarding the device’s cameras has just surfaced online. This information comes from Korea (though the source claims it was posted to Reddit, a link was not provided), and it basically shares what camera sensors will the Xperia XZ4 sport on the back.

As previous rumors and leaks suggested, the Xperia XZ4 is expected to include three cameras on the back, and those three cameras will be vertically-aligned. The main sensor will be located in the middle, and we’re looking at a 52-megapixel (f/1.6 aperture) sensor here. The secondary camera will be placed above the main one, and we’re looking at a 16-megapixel “telescope” sensor (f/2.6 aperture). The last camera will actually be a ToF (Time-of-Flight), and this will be a 0.3-megapixel sensor with an f/1.4 aperture lens.

Now, the phone’s main 52-megapixel sensor will probably use pixel binning technology, it could, theoretically, use 4-to-1 pixel binning in order to create a 13-megapixel image. HONOR’s brand new View20 flagship actually uses pixel binning for its 48-megapixel camera, and the device actually does a great job in that regard, though the View20 creates a 12-megapixel image as a result. You will, of course, be able to shoot images in 52-megapixel resolution as well, though chances are that will take a bit more time, and it’s quite possible those images will not be as good as the 13-megapixel ones.

What Else Do We Know?

Previous rumors / leaks did share some additional info regarding the Xperia XZ4, though as per usual, take this info with a grain of salt. According to a recent leak, the Xperia XZ4 will feature a 6.5-inch QHD+ display with a 21:9 display aspect ratio. That display aspect ratio has been popping up in rumors for a long time now, and it’s quite possible that part is true, for better or worse.

The device is also rumored to sport 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage, while a 4,400mAh battery is rumored to power the phone. The Snapdragon 855 64-bit octa-core processor from Qualcomm will fuel this phone, and the device will come with Android 9 Pie pre-installed, while Sony’s custom overlay will be included on top of it, of course.

The Sony Xperia XZ4 will be quite a tall phone, if the provided info is accurate, and even though its bezels will be thin, do expect to see some bezel above and below the display, as the device probably will not include a display notch or hole. The Xperia XZ4 will be made out of metal and glass, just like its predecessors, and it remains to be seen if Sony will use a rear-facing capacitive fingerprint scanner, and an in-display one.

It Is Launching Soon

Sony had announced a press conference for February 25, as part of the Mobile World Congress (MWC), and by the looks of it, the company will announce the Xperia XZ4 during that press event. Interestingly enough, it seems like the Xperia XZ4 Compact will not be announced at that event, or at all, for that matter. The company’s exec hinted that by saying that consumers want phones with larger displays now, and that releasing “Compact” phones in the past made sense, without saying anything about the present or the future.
