Alcidae’s popular, and inexpensive garage camera and control, the Garager II has added Google Assistant support. The company announced support for it on Twitter on Monday.
The Garager II is a smart camera for your garage that also can control your garage. So it’s a 2-in-1 basically, allowing you to remotely control your garage door, and also keep an eye on things while you’re not home (and even when you are home). The Garager II can open and close your garage door whenever you need it too. It will also send you smart alerts and notifications when motion or sound is detected.
Alcidae also allows users to share their Garager II with friends and family. So that if something does happen when you are not home, a neighbor could stop by and check on your home and make sure everything is the way it should be. There is two-way audio included, so you can talk to whoever is in your garage. Like most smart cameras these days, there is also night vision support. So that even in the dark, the Garager II can still see what’s going on.
It already worked with Amazon Alexa, so the news today is the fact that it is going to work with the Google Assistant – via a software update. You can go into your Google Home app and add the Alcidae Garager II to your account, and then be able to control the camera with your voice. It’s a pretty simple thing to set up really, it’s not much different than adding Philips Hue, LIFX, or anything else to your Google Home account.
With Google Assistant support, you can use your voice to open or close the garage. You can also use your voice to enable or disable motion and sound notifications and much more. This is very helpful if you are using Android Auto in your car. Say you are about to pull into the driveway, simply say “OK Google, open the garage door” and it’ll be open so you can just pull in without having to tap a button on the sun visor of your car. Now yes, tapping that button isn’t that distracting while you’re driving, but telling the Google Assistant to do it is just that much cooler.
The Garager II is a pretty cool smart camera that you can put into your garage. Now that it has Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant, it is going to work well for both platforms. So no matter which assistant you prefer, the Garager II is going to work for your smart home. The fact that it can also control your garage door, on top of just being able to see in and around your garage, is also a pretty big deal. As that is the way that most thieves get into your home (if you have a garage of course), as many people leave the door from the garage to their home, unlocked. Making it easier. But with the Garager II, users can see who’s coming in and out of their garage too.
You can get the Garager II from Amazon using the link below. It’s just $149, which is a really good price, considering normal smart cameras are about this same price.
