It seems like first day Samsung Galaxy S10 registration in the company’s homeland did not really go according to plan, at least according to a report by Korea Herald. The source claims that consumers booked 140,000 Galaxy S10e, S10, and S10+ units on the first day, and those numbers seem to be behind the Galaxy S10’s predecessor.
Last year, Samsung received 180,000 reservations for the Galaxy S9 series on the first day of pre-orders, while 200,000 people booked the Galaxy Note9 during the first day of pre-order availability. So, as you can see, the Galaxy S10 bookings are quite a bit behind both the Galaxy S9 and Note9 series smartphones, though do keep in mind these are only first-day bookings, things may change in the near future, of course.
Now, there may be a number of reasons why this happened, as the Galaxy S10 series is expected to outsell the Galaxy S9 series, as the Galaxy S9 series did not do as well as Samsung expected. The Galaxy S10 is a breath of fresh air, it does bring a display camera hole which may bother some people, but its bezels are thinner than ever before, not to mention that consumers now have more units to choose from, as the Galaxy S10e, S10, and S10+ are all available for pre-order. On top of that, the Galaxy S10 series brings considerably more RAM to the table, compared to the Galaxy S9 series, and is a considerable jump from the previous generation, a much more notable jump than the Galaxy S9 was compared to the Galaxy S8.
Now, it is worth noting that the Galaxy S10 5G will become available at a later date, so it is possible some consumers are waiting for that phone to be available, and that is probably affecting pre-orders for the Galaxy S10e, S10, and S10+. The Galaxy S10 5G will include 5G support, but on top of that, it also sports a larger display than the Galaxy S10+, and it comes with an extra camera on the back, for a total of four rear-facing cameras.
The Galaxy Fold may be yet another reason why people are less interested than Samsung has hoped, as the company introduced the Galaxy Fold as its first foldable smartphone on February 20. The Galaxy Fold will become available at some point this year, but the device will cost almost $2,000, so it’s highly unlikely that many people are interested in it, but some certainly are. So, that, in addition to the Galaxy S10 5G, probably affects pre-orders for the Galaxy S10e, S10, and S10+ (at least in Korea), but it remains to be seen how many people will pre-order them by the time the pre-order period ends.
The Galaxy S10e is the most affordable Galaxy S10 unit, it comes with a flat fullHD+ display, side-facing fingerprint scanner, and two cameras on the back, not to mention that it is the smallest Galaxy S10 unit out there. This handset is a direct competitor to the iPhone XR, and it remains to be seen how will its sales numbers compare to those of the Galaxy S10 and Galaxy S10+.
The Galaxy S10 and S10+ are actually quite similar, both devices include in-display fingerprint scanners, QHD+ curved displays, and three cameras on the back. The Galaxy S10 does ship with a single camera on the front, while the Galaxy S10+ includes two, but that is pretty much the only difference between the two phones in terms of the design. The Galaxy S10+ is also larger than the Galaxy S10, of course. If you’d like to know more about the differences between Galaxy S10 models, click here.
