Samsung Galaxy S10 Sales To Be Better Than Expected: Analyst

A well-known analyst, Ming-Chi Kuo, has increased his Samsung Galaxy S10 shipment estimate by 30-percent, reports 9to5Mac, and iPhones actually have a lot to do with that. Kuo mentioned “spec differentiation” from current iPhones as the main reason for this, as the Galaxy S10 units do have an advantage in that regard. He specifically mentioned the ultrasonic fingerprint scanner which can be found in all Galaxy S10 variants except the most affordable one, the Galaxy S10e.

Kuo has increased shipping estimates of the Galaxy S10 series from 30-35 million to 40-45 million. In addition to mentioning “spec differentiation” in comparison with the current iPhones, Kuo listed three additional reasons for such estimation. He cited the market’s view on high-end smartphones, trade-in programs, and strong demand in China.

Referring to “spec differentiation”, Kuo did specifically mention an in-display fingerprint scanner, but that’s not all. He also mentioned a rear-facing triple camera setup on the Galaxy S10 and S10+, and bilateral wireless charging. He seems to think that such features will help Samsung sell more Galaxy S10 units, having in mind Samsung’s marketing prowess, of course.

In his note, he also said that Apple is planning for a triple camera setup on this year’s iPhones, while he also mentioned Apple’s revision of Q1 2019 earnings due to iPhones poor performance in China. Apple’s iPhones can’t seem to catch a break in China, and it remains to be seen if that will change at some point this year. Samsung, on the other hand, seems to be growing in popularity, at least if the demand for its Galaxy S10 units is anything to go by, as pre-order numbers have been quite good.

Samsung had introduced its Galaxy S10 series of devices at the end of last month, on February 20. The company announced four devices as part of the lineup, the Galaxy S10e, S10, S10+, and S10 5G. The 5G-enabled Galaxy S10 unit is still not available, while all the other ones are currently available for pre-order all over the world, and will go on sale in just a couple of days.

All Galaxy S10 units sport a similar design, there are some differences in that regard, and also when it comes to their internals, of course. The Galaxy S10e is the most affordable Galaxy S10 unit, while it’s also the smallest. The Galaxy S10e is the only Galaxy S10 unit which sports two cameras on the back, and also the only one to sport a flat display. This is a direct competitor to Apple’s iPhone XR.

The Galaxy S10 and S10+ both ship with three cameras on the back, while both of those phones include curved displays as well. Both devices ship with in-display fingerprint scanners, and the only difference when it comes to their design comes to front-facing cameras, as the Galaxy S10+ includes two such units, while the Galaxy S10 sports one. The two phones are also different in terms of size.

The Galaxy S10 5G is the only variant of the phone to sport four cameras on the back, while it will also be the largest Galaxy S10 smartphone with a 6.7-inch display. All Galaxy S10 smartphones are fueled by the Exynos 9820 in Europe and India, while the Snapdragon 855 fuels them in the US and China. Android 9 Pie comes pre-installed on all phones, along with Samsung’s One UI overlay, and the pricing for the Galaxy S10 series starts at $749 in the US.
