The Moto G7, the latest mid-range smartphone offering from Motorola, is now available for pre-order from Google Fi. The Moto G7 is the third mid-range device from Motorola that Google Fi subscribers can purchase from the mobile virtual network operator (MVNO), with the other two being the Moto G6 and the Android One version of the Moto X4. Google Fi currently has a promotional offer that slashes the price of the Moto G7 by $50, with consumers only paying $249. They may also pay for the device via monthly payments starting at $10.38, or subscribers may get the device for free if they trade in their old handsets.
Background: The search giant launched Google Fi back in 2015, and it utilizes the infrastructure of T-Mobile, Sprint, and US Cellular as well as secure Wi-Fi hotspots. Smartphones on Google Fi automatically switches between networks depending on the signal strength.
When the operator launched, it offered a flat price of $10 per gigabyte of data consumed, although this later changed through the introduction of the Bill Protection feature, which caps the total cost of data at $80 once the subscriber uses more than 6GB of data. Data speeds slow down after users consume 15GB of data, although subscribers may also choose to pay extra to boost their network speeds. Google Fi also offers free roaming in more than 170 countries, and it automatically routes traffic through a VPN when connecting the smartphone to Wi-Fi hotspots.
While customers of Google Fi may actually use nearly all Android smartphones that support networking technologies like CDMA, GSM, and LTE, purchasing handsets designed for the carrier, which also includes the Pixel 3, the LG G7 ThinQ, and the LG V35 ThinQ, will allow subscribers to take full advantage of all the features and services offered by the network operator. The search giant explains that devices designed for Google Fi include special hardware and software that makes it easier for handsets to transition between networks while also ensuring the security and reliability of the devices.
Motorola launched the Moto G7 last month, and it sports the Snapdragon 632 chipset. This SoC includes an octa-core Kryo 250 CPU running at a maximum clock speed of 1.8GHz and the Adreno 506 GPU. The handset also features 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal flash storage, which can be expanded using a microSD card with capacities of up to 512GB.
The smartphone also supports Adoptable Storage, which enables people to format microSD cards as a part of the internal storage. A 3,000mAh battery powers the Moto G7, and this power pack features fast charging. The dual rear camera setup contains a 12-megapixel main imaging module and a 5-megapixel depth sensor, while the selfie shooter includes an 8-megapixel camera. The handset also sports a 6.2-inch display with a resolution of full HD+ and an aspect ratio of 19:9. The Moto G7 ships with Android 9 Pie pre-installed, and the handset is available in two color options, namely black and white.
Impact: Google Fi reaches to more potential subscribers by offering another mid-range device designed to work on its network.
