It seems like an international variant of the Samsung Galaxy Fold will not include Samsung’s Exynos processor. As most of you know, Samsung’s flagship smartphones usually come in two SoC variants, the US and China get the Snapdragon-powered variant, while Europe and India get Exynos-powered Samsung flagships.
Well, according to XDA, Samsung’s first foldable smartphone will break the mold. At launch, Samsung did mention that the phone will be fueled by a 7nm 64-bit octa-core processor, so it was easy to assume that the company was referring to the Snapdragon 855 64-bit octa-core processor from Qualcomm, as the Exynos 9820 is an 8nm processor.
Now, the Galaxy Fold launch took place in the US, and Samsung always mentions only US-based variants of its flagships, so it was not exactly surprising that the Exynos variant was not mentioned, and some people actually automatically assumed that the European variant will ship with the Exynos 9820. Well, according to the source, that will not happen.
The source claims that the international variant of the Samsung Galaxy Fold, which will arrive with the SM-F900F model number, will also ship with the Snapdragon 855, not the Exynos 9820. The source notes that one of its developers, deadman96385, has shared a firmware dump from the international variant of the device, and the build.prop inside it contains the same set of references that was spotted in the SM-F900U variant of the device.
Do keep in mind that the Exynos 9820 variant may still exist, even though that’s unlikely, as the phone’s international model aimed at Europe will ship with Snapdragon 855… at least according to the provided information.
Samsung’s very first foldable smartphone
The Galaxy Fold is Samsung’s very first foldable smartphone, and the device was announced alongside the Galaxy S10 series last month. Samsung did reveal quite a bit of detail when it comes to the device, but not all tidbits, as you can see.
The Galaxy Fold is made out of metal and glass, and it comes with two displays. The main display measures 7.3 inches in diagonal, while the secondary one is much smaller at 4.6 inches. The phone will ship with 12GB of RAM and 512GB of storage, while it will not offer microSD card expansion.
The phone’s main display will include a rather noticeable corner notch, while the phone will include three vertically-aligned cameras on the back. When folded, the device will be quite narrow, and the device will include 10 and 8-megapixel cameras on the front. A 16-megapixel sensor is accompanied by two 12-megapixel ones on the back of the Galaxy Fold.
This handset will ship with Android 9 Pie out of the box, with Samsung’s custom software on top of it. The phone does not include a 3.5mm headphone jack, while it comes with a 4,380mAh battery and support for fast charging. The Galaxy Fold will cost almost $2,000 once it becomes available, and you can think of it as a luxury phone of sorts. This handset will be more affordable than Huawei’s Mate X foldable smartphone, though, but both are extremely expensive, needless to say.
