OnePlus 5 & 5T Updated With Deep Google Duo Integration

A new stable update is now rolling out to the OnePlus 5 and 5T, following the Open Beta update which landed two days ago. This new update is marked as OxygenOS 9.0.4 for both devices, and it’s quite similar to the OxygenOS 9.0.4 update for the OnePlus 6 which landed earlier this month.

This update brings a new Android security patch to the OnePlus 5 and 5T, a security patch for January 2019, while it also improves stability for OTA (over-the-air) updates. General bug fixes and system improvements are also included here, while the company also improved network stability on both devices. On top of everything, OnePlus also brings deep integration with Google Duo in OxygenOS 9.0.4, as it did to both the OnePlus 6 and 6T earlier this month.

That is pretty much it as far as changes are concerned. We can say that this is an iterative update, as it’s filled with various improvements and bug fixes, in addition to one functional change in form of Google Duo. Both the OnePlus 5 and 5T received Android 9 Pie a while back, so this iterative update is not exactly surprising, but it is welcomed.

The update has started rolling out over-the-air to the OnePlus 5 and 5T, but as per usual, OTA will be incremental. OnePlus is pushing the update to a small percentage of users first, and after a few days, it will continue pushing it to the rest of the users. The company probably does this for precaution, if it spots any issues with the update, it will stop rolling it out and fix whatever is broken, though that’s rarely the case.

Last Open Beta Update Landed Less Than 48 Hours Ago

If you’re running beta software on your OnePlus 5 and 5T handset, you have probably already received the latest Open Beta update which started rolling out less than two days ago. That update did not bring a lot of changes, but it did improve gaming mode on both devices, while weather information has been added in the world clock module.

OnePlus had rolled out quite a few Open Beta updates to both devices since they launched, and these two devices have been out in the market for quite some time now. The OnePlus 5 was announced almost two years ago, while the OnePlus 5T has been around for about a year and a half.

OnePlus 5 & 5T Are Still Quite Powerful

These two handsets have been around for a while, but they’re still quite capable and excellent performers, thanks to solid spec sheets and OnePlus’ software. Both devices are fueled by the same processor, the Snapdragon 835, and that chip is still quite powerful.

Both phones are made out of metal, and they both include an Optic AMOLED display on the front, even though the OnePlus 5T’s display is larger. Both phones come with two cameras on the back, and had launched in 6GB and 8GB RAM variants. Neither of the two phones is officially available from OnePlus at this point, as the OnePlus 6T replaced everything in OnePlus’ lineup, when it comes to smartphones.
