Huaweiintroduced its new flagship smartphones today, the P30 and P30 Pro. These two phones have been leaking intensively for weeks now, and it turns out that most of those leaks were spot on. We’ve already talked about both of these phones in our announcement article, and are here to take a closer look at their specifications.
These two handsets are quite similar when it comes to specs, but not identical, so let’s start with what they have in common as far as specs are concerned, shall we. Both devices are fueled by the same processor, the Kirin 980, which is Huawei’s most powerful mobile chip at the moment, and that’s the same processor that fuels the company’s flagship Mate 20 series of phones. We’re looking at a 7nm 64-bit octa-core chip here.
Both devices ship with Android 9 Pie out of the box, along with Huawei’s Emotion UI (EMUI) 9.2 Android overlay, which is installed on top of Google’s OS. Both devices are IP certified, the Huawei P30 comes with IP53 certification, while the P30 Pro offer IP68 certification for water and dust resistance.
Both phones feature a 32-megapixel (f/2.0 aperture) selfie camera, and both ship with Leica’s lenses. You will be able to enjoy 32-bit/384kHz audio on both of these phones, while both devices feature in-display fingerprint scanners. Huawei opted to include optical fingerprint scanners in these two devices, not ultrasonic ones.
In terms of displays, both devices do ship with fullHD+ (2340 x 1080) OLED displays (both offer 19.5:9 display aspect ratio), but those two displays are different. The Huawei P30 includes a 6.1-inch fullHD+ flat display, while the P30 Pro features a 6.47-inch fullHD+ curved panel. The P30 has a higher ppi at 422, while the P30 Pro features 398 ppi. It is also worth noting that both phones support HDR10.
The Huawei P30 includes 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage, while the P30 Pro comes with 8GB of RAM and in three storage variants, 128GB, 256GB, and 512GB models. Both devices support microSD card storage expansion, by the way, up to 256GB.
The Huawei P30 comes with a smaller battery, a 3,650mAh unit, while the P30 Pro includes a 4,200mAh battery. Both of these batteries seem to be large enough considering display sizes and resolutions on these two phones, though. The Huawei P30 supports 22.5W fast wired charging, and it doesn’t come with wireless charging, while the P30 Pro offers 40W fast wired charging, and 15W wireless charging. The Huawei P30 Pro also offers reverse wireless charging, like the Mate 20 Pro, while the P30 does not. It is also worth noting that the Huawei P30 includes a 3.5mm headphone jack, while the P30 Pro does not.
Rear camera setups are arguably the most interesting part of the P30 and P30 Pro, as we all have high expectations for Huawei’s flagship cameras at this point in time. These two phones do not ship with identical camera setups, though. The Huawei P30 includes 40-megapixel (f/1.8 aperture) main camera, 16-megapixel (f/2.2 aperture) wide-angle unit, and an 8-megapixel (f/2.4 aperture, OIS) 3x telephoto camera (5x hybrid zoom, 30x digital zoom).
The P30 Pro, on the other hand, comes with 40-megapixel (f/1.6 aperture, OIS) main sensor, 20-megapixel (f/2.2 aperture) wide-angle unit, and an 8-megapixel (f/3.4 aperture, OIS) 5x telephoto camera (10x hybrid zoom, 50x digital zoom). The P30 Pro’s camera setup enables 10x hybrid (optical) zoom, which is a feature that the P30 does not have. The P30 Pro also includes a ToF (Time-of-Flight) sensor on the back.
