Twitter has decided to release an experimental beta application called “Twttr”. The company has announced this app’s arrival via its official Twitter handle, and the company refers to this application as a “prototype app”.
The company announced that the first group of participants already got access to the application, so the app is not really open for everyone. If you’d like to test some of Twitter’s features and help the company out, you can still apply to become a beta tester (at the time of writing this article).
If you’d like to apply, hit the link included below the article. Once you do, you will be required to input your Twitter username. In addition to that, the company will ask you to say what kind of device you use to access Twitter (primary device), and what is your primary language, on top of where you live. Once you do all that, you’ll be able to submit your application.
Do keep in mind that it may take a while before you gain access to the app, even a few weeks, as it seems like Twitter is accepting a limited amount of applicants. If you do get selected, you will be required to use Twttr as you primary twitter application, and Twitter encourages its testers to post screenshots of new featuring using the #LetsHaveAConvo hashtag.
If the name “Twttr” sounds familiar, there’s a good reason for that, as that is the original name of this social media network. According to Twitter, this prototype program’s goal is to make conversations easier to find, and also participate in them, so that’s probably the very first feature / set of features that beta testers will be required to participate in.
Some of you probably remember that Twitter demonstrated a new conversation-related feature(s) at CES, where the company’s prototype application appeared with a different design for conversations. Replies offered a different design, they were more chat-like, but that’s not all. In addition to that, replies from followers were blue-colored, while responses from everyone else were laid out in gray color.
Twitter did mention that it plans to invite around two thousand of English and Japanese speakers, though that’s pretty much all the info that Twitter shared regarding its selection process for Twttr.
The release of this application will probably help the company not only come up with new features faster, but also to release them faster to the main application. Twitter had released several new features in the last year or so, and it recently allowed users to select between latest and popular tweets when it comes to their main feed. This way, you can choose whether you want to see all tweets from your followers, or do you want to allow Twitter to show you what it thinks is important.
Twitter’s CEO said a while back that the company is considering adding the edit button to the service. As you probably already know, Twitter does not allow you to edit your tweets, same goes for the main tweet, and replies to it, but that may change down the road, though Twitter may opt to introduce a different edit button than we’re used to, we’ll see.
Want to help us build some new Twitter features?
We want it to be easier to read, understand, and join conversations — and we’d love to know what you think.
