LG’s G8 ThinQ flagship was announced back in February, and the company has just released two new promo videos for the device, promoting some of its features. To be more specific, these two promo videos talk about the G8 ThinQ’s Hand ID and Air Motion features, and the two videos are embedded down below.
The first video demonstrates the G8 ThinQ’s Hand ID feature, which essentially allows you to unlock the device, while it will also show you how to set it up. The first thing you need to do is head to the Settings app, and hit the “General” section. From there, tap “Lock screen & security” option, and then “Hand ID”.
At that point, you will need to confirm your pin (if you have it set up), and proceed to mapping your hand. Once you do, the phone’s Z camera will be able to scan your hand and unlock the device while it’s sitting at a table, for example, or in whatever other situation. All you need to do is place your hand about four inches above the phone’s Z camera, and that’s it, the phone will unlock.
The second video down below will show you how to use the LG G8 ThinQ’s Air Motion feature to control the device. Air Motion is essentially a fancy name for LG’s air gestures, Before you’re able to use Air Motion, you will need to activate it. Navigate to the Settings app, then hit “General” section, and from there tap on the “Air Motion” option. You can opt to activate “Shortcuts and capture” and “Control music and videos” Air Motion gestures. At that point, you will need to select two apps that you would use with such air gestures, like your music app and your gallery app.
Now, in order to start using Air Motion, you will need to place your hand four inches away from the Z camera up top, same as you would use Hand ID, but when the phone is already unlocked. At that point, you will need to curve your hand a bit (as shown in the video) in order to trigger Air Motion, and you’ll need to do that at about 6 inches away from the phone’s Z camera.
The phone will register that you are using Air Motion, and it will allow you to move your hand to left or right to trigger an app you’ve selected. Once you do that, you will be able to control volume inside a music app, play / pause music, and so on. You can also capture a screenshot with Air Motion, which is also demonstrated in the video. LG emphasizes that this is a convenient way of controlling your phone when your hands are dirty or something of the sort.
The two videos down below explain in detail how to use both of these gestures, while the two will also give you examples of length 4 and 6 inches represent, by suggesting some household items that are about the same length. Hand ID is a brand new concept, while Air Motion has been used before by smartphone manufacturer, though in a somewhat different way.
