Meizu 16s Is Here With Top-Notch Specs, Sleek Design & So Much More

Meizu has announced its new flagship for 2019, the Meizu 16s. The device has been announced during a press conference in Zhuhai, China. The company actually opted to keep things really simple in terms of the design, which seems to be a good thing, as there are no display notches, holes, or pop-up cameras included here.

Safe, but nice-looking design

The phone is made out of metal and glass, while Meizu said that it did its best to make it as comfortable to hold as possible. The phone’s display back side is curved a bit, on its sides, while this smartphone comes with two rear-facing cameras, which are vertically aligned. A ring LED flash sits below those two cameras, while Meizu’s branding is also present on the back of this phone.

The volume up, volume down, and power / lock buttons are placed on the right-hand side of the Meizu 16s, while the device’s display sports rounded corners. As you can see, the Meizu 16s comes with extremely thin bezels, its side bezels are non-existent, while the ones on the top and bottom are proportional, and extremely thin. Many would agree that this is a better choice than a display notch, hole, pop-up camera, or some other odd solution.

Top of the line specifications

The Meizu 16s features a 6.2-inch fullHD+ Super AMOLED display, and it comes with a 91.53-percent screen to body ratio. The phone’s Super Retina anti-blue light screen is VDE Blue-Light protection certified from Germany, says Meizu. The display is able to filter 33-percent harmful blue light, while the phone features DC dimming, which reduces stroboscopic and allows the display to reduce eye strain.

The phone includes an in-display fingerprint scanner (called mTouch), and Meizu claims that it increased the fingerprint recognition speed of that sensor by 100-percent. The device is fueled by the Snapdragon 855 64-bit octa-core processor, while it comes with 6GB / 8GB of LPDDR4X RAM and 128GB / 256GB of UFS 2.1 flash storage.

A 3,600mAh battery is included in this package, and it supports 24W mCharge fast wired charging. Android 9 Pie comes pre-installed on this smartphone, along with Flyme OS 8, while the phone has two SIM card slots.

48-megapixel (Sony’s IMX586 sensor, 0.8pixel size, f/1.7 aperture) and 20-megapixel (Sony’s IMX350 sensor, telephoto camera) sit on the back of this smartphone, while a single 20-megapixel front-facing unit (Samsung’s 3T2 sensor) is included on the phone’s front side.

The Meizu 16s ships with stereo speakers, though a 3.5mm headphone jack is not included here. The phone supports Bluetooth 5 connectivity, while it measures 151.9 x 73.4 x 7.65mm, and weighs 165 grams.

Plenty of models to choose from

The device comes in Carbon Black, Phantom Blue, and White color variants. The 6GB RAM model with 128GB of storage is priced at 3,398 Yuan ($505) in China while the 8GB RAM variant with 128GB of storage costs 3,698 ($550). The most powerful version, an 8GB RAM variant with 256GB of storage is priced at 4,198 Yuan ($624). The company said that the phone will go on sale starting from April 28, and a global variant will probably become available soon after that, probably within a month or so, but Meizu did not share any info regarding that, not yet.
