HMD Global has just announced the very first Nokia-branded smartphone with a punchole display, the Nokia X71. The Nokia X71 is a mid-range smartphone which features a display camera hole in the top-left portion of its display, similar to the HONOR View20. The phone’s display sports rounded corners, and bezels are almost non-existent here, even though an extremely thin “chin” is here.
The device includes three vertically-aligned cameras on the back, while ZEISS’ optics are a part of the package. Those three cameras are centered at the top of the phone’s back side, while they do protrude on the back a bit. An LED flash is located right next to those three cameras, on the left, while a fingerprint scanner lies right below them. Nokia’s branding is also imprinted on the back of this device. The back side of the phone is slightly curved on the sides.
The Nokia X71 features a large 6.3-inch fullHD+ (2316 x 1080) display with a 2.5D curved glass on top of it. The phone is fueled by the Snapdragon 660 64-bit octa-core processor by Qualcomm, and it comes with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage (expandable up to 256GB via a microSD card).
A 3,500mAh battery is also included in this package, it is not removable, and it supports 18W fast wired charging. Android 9 Pie comes pre-installed on the device, while the phone includes two SIM card slots (hybrid setup, 2x nano SIM). Just to be clear, this phone comes with stock Android, as it is a part of Google’s Android One program, so don’t expect to see any bloatware on the phone or anything of the sort.
48-megapixel (f/1.8 aperture, 0.8um pixel size, 6P lens), 8-megapixel (120-degree ultra-wide-angle lens), and 5-megapixel (f/2.4 aperture) cameras are included on the back of this handset. A single 16-megapixel camera sits on the front side of the Nokia X71.
This smartphone supports Bluetooth 5, while it also comes with support for Dual 4G VoLTE, and Wi-Fi 802.11 ac (2.4GHz + 5GHz). The phone includes a Type-C USB port on the bottom, while it offers a 3.5mm headphone jack as well. Nokia’s OZO audio is also a part of the package, in case you were wondering.
The Nokia X71 has been announced in Black color with Copper / Orange accents, and it is priced at NT$11,990 ($388) in Taiwan. The phone will become available in Taiwan starting on April 10, and chances are it will hit other markets soon after that. The phone will almost certainly become available in markets outside of Asia as the Nokia 6.2, and it will almost certainly make its way to Europe as well.
It is still unclear how much this phone will cost in Europe, but chances are it will be a bit more expensive than it is in Taiwan, so it may end up costing around $400. This may even be a phone with the highest screen-to-body ratio (93-percent) that HMD Global ever released, but we cannot confirm that just yet.
