You Can Expect Three OnePlus 7 Smartphones This Year

OnePlus is going to be following Samsung’s lead this year, launching three versions of the OnePlus 7 smartphone, according to the latest leaks.

According to Ishan Agarwal, who has been pretty accurate lately with leaks, OnePlus will have three models. The OnePlus 7, OnePlus 7 Pro and OnePlus 7 Pro 5G. Obviously the “Pro” models are going to have higher-end specs than the standard OnePlus 7. Model numbers have also leaked for all three models. The OnePlus 7 will be GM1901,03,03, while the OnePlus 7 Pro will be the GM1911,13,15,17 and the OnePlus 7 Pro 5G will be the GM1920. The 5G model only has one number because it is only going to be available on one carrier in the UK – EE. While the others are going to be available elsewhere.

Specs for the OnePlus 7 Pro have also leaked. Showing a 6.67-inch AMOLED display, unfortunately the resolution is not shown though. That is going to be powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 chipset, with 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage. It’s unclear if this will be the base-model configuration (though it likely will be) or if there will be a 6GB model as well.

The OnePlus 7 Pro will also feature a triple-camera setup, with a 48-megapixel, 16-megapixel and 8-megapixel camera. The 48-megapixel camera is likely the main sensor, and the same one we’ve seen on other smartphones. The other two could be wide-angle and telephoto, though there’s no way to tell if that is the setup OnePlus is going for just yet.

Some photos of the OnePlus 7 Pro have also leaked from Weibo, which you can see in Agarwal’s tweet. It shows what looks like an OPPO Find X, though you can clearly see that it is running close to stock Android and not ColorOS. Which makes it likely that this is OxygenOS. That includes barely any bezels all around, and no camera. This is because the OnePlus 7 Pro is likely to feature a motorized camera, similar to phones from OnePlus’ sister brands, vivo and OPPO.

OnePlus launching three variants of the same phone, is quite a departure from the past. Typically, OnePlus would launch one phone with a few different configurations. But if these leaks are correct, OnePlus is going to be launching three different variants of the OnePlus 7, and this is the first time the company would be using the “Pro” moniker in the name. It looks like the “Pro” was going to be used for the 5G model, but OnePlus decided to make a 4G version of that phone as well. This is something we will likely see from a number of other OEMs this year, with more and more 5G smartphones coming out.

The OnePlus 7 isn’t expected to launch for a few more weeks (or months). OnePlus has not sent out any invites for an event to announce the phone just yet. Which means we likely still have at least a month before the phone is announced. It’s very possible that OnePlus would wait until after Google I/O which is slated to start on May 7.
