Back in March, a report suggested that Samsung is planning to launch two more foldable smartphones this year, and now a new report appeared that seems to mention completely different phones. According to a report by The Bell, Samsung is planning to launch two additional phones, as the company is developing flexible displays for those phones, and the phones are called “Type G” and “Type S”, which are probably just the codenames.
The source claims that both of those devices will be larger than the Galaxy Fold, as the displays in development are larger. The Type G will allegedly ship with an 8-inch display, and its two sides will fold inwards, according to the provided info. The Type S, on the other hand, will sport a 13-inch display, and it will be a two-fold smartphone. In fact, the patent that Samsung submitted back in November may reveal the design of the Type S foldable smartphone, but we’ll see.
These are all just rumors and reports, so it remains to be seen what will happen, but we may see additional foldable phones by Samsung released this year. The first report actually suggested that the company is working on a foldable phone that folds outwards, and a clamshell-like foldable phones, which is kind of in contradiction with today’s report, and it’s rather difficult to believe Samsung is planning to release four new foldable devices in the near future.
The company did hit a roadblock when it comes to foldable smartphones, in a way, as its initial batch of Galaxy Fold devices seems to have display issues. Luckily for the company, such issues were spotted by reviewers who were shipped devices early, so the company did not ship out the Galaxy Fold units to consumers yet.
All of this basically forced Samsung to postpone the launch of the Galaxy Fold which was supposed to happen in a few days. The company will allegedly release the Galaxy Fold in June, but nothing has been set in stone just yet, as the company needs to attend the issues that appeared.
Some reviewers peeled off the protective layer that is placed on top of the Galaxy Fold’s display, as it looks like a screen protector, and it’s not. Peeling off that layer will damage the display, and that is exactly what happened. For some other reviewers, that was not the issue, as displays basically started malfunctioning on their own, either some rather odd lines appeared on the display, or the display simply stopped responding to input. Several cases were revealed recently, so the company is attempting to iron out all the kinks before it releases the Galaxy Fold.
It is possible that these Galaxy Fold issues will alter Samsung’s plans for other foldable smartphones that may be in its plans for this year. We are only guessing here, but it is an option. It also remains to be seen how well will the Galaxy Fold sell with such a high price tag, even though Samsung said that the demand for the device has been overwhelming, at least in some regions.
