Russian luxury smartphone customization company Caviar is now ready to take on the unique stylings of Samsung’s upcoming Galaxy Fold hybrid flagship with its own take on the gadget, complete with gold adornments that match up with the handset’s looks.
The $8,200 redesign of the premium flagship, up for pre-order now, is novel in more than one sense of the word too. Emblazoned with gold dragons, house symbols, and other series imagery, the custom device literally resembles the next, as-yet-incomplete book in the series, The Winds of Winter — complete with a map-style finish under the gold relief. A custom wallpaper appears on the front screen of the folding gadget, showcasing the book title, author, and other details.
The spine of the ‘book’ is stamped with markings that continue the theme, with details about the gold, the branding for the device, a number indicating where the gadget falls with regard to rolling off the line.
Don’t judge a book by its cover?
Underneath the gleaming exterior, there’s really nothing to set the custom Samsung Galaxy Fold from its relatively ordinary counterparts. That doesn’t make the gadget any less premium either.
Caviar notes its take on the top-tier gadget will ship with the same dual-screen layout sized at 7.3-inches and a resolution of 2152 x 1536 found elsewhere. That’s an AMOLED display set on a presumably now-fixed hinge designed to be opened and closed as many as 200,000 times without issues. The outward facing panel is a standard flat Super AMOLED display at 4.6-inches and 720 x 1680 resolution.
Four rear cameras are part of the external build too, including the 10-megapixel f/2.2 aperture selfie camera above the primary external screen. The 16-megapixel ultra-wide sensor with an f/2.2 aperture and two 12-megapixel snappers for standard and telephoto shots — located on the back of the folded handset — are included there too. The two latter cameras have a dual f/1.5 mode and f/2.4 aperture, and f/2.4 aperture, respectively.
Opened the gadget up, two more selfie cameras will be revealed, including another 10-megapixel f/2.2 aperture and an 8-megapixel RGB depth-sensing camera.
Caviar hasn’t revealed how much the device is expected to weight with all of the custom gadget’s gold in place but the handset will start out with the same weight and dimensions too. A standard 4,380mAh dual battery and Snapdragon 855 octa-core SoC will power the device, backed up by 12GB RAM and 512GB of UFS 3.0 storage.
Out of reach in a few different ways
Caviar’s custom gold handsets are typically made on a ‘to-order’ basis and since the Samsung Galaxy Fold still isn’t available to buy from the OEM, there aren’t any Caviar-built Game of Thrones Edition Galaxy Fold devices available yet. The company hasn’t revealed any details about when, exactly, the handset is expected to ship either, despite being up for pre-order.
Aside from being expensive at face value, the flagship in question is not priced with any taxes or shipping included either. So, while it’s arguably going to be one of the most complex and gorgeous looking devices on the market, it is undoubtedly going to be among the most expensive and exclusive Samsung handsets money can buy.
